What does the 25× zoom actually cover in millimetres?
From 24 mm at wide angle to 600 mm at telephoto (35 mm equivalent), with an aperture of F3.7 to F6.2 and a lens design of 12 elements in 11 groups. A 4× digital zoom is added on top, for a combined zoom of 100×; it is the 25× optical zoom that brings subjects closer without loss of quality.
Can you move beyond fully automatic with this camera?
Yes. Beyond auto mode, it offers Program AE, shutter priority, aperture priority and manual mode, plus custom settings. Exposure compensation ranges from −3 to +3 EV in one-third steps and white balance can be set manually or by colour temperature, from 1,900 to 10,000 K.
Can the Kodak AZ255 be used for night photos?
Yes, within certain limits: the shutter speed goes down to 30 seconds, sensitivity goes up to ISO 3200 and stabilisation is optical. Night Landscape, Night Portrait and Fireworks modes are provided.
What is the minimum distance at which you can photograph a subject?
In Macro mode, as close as 3 cm from the subject, but at wide angle only, where the lens opens to F3.7. With normal focusing, allow 60 cm at wide angle and 2.50 m at the telephoto position: a very close subject therefore cannot be photographed fully zoomed in.
Does it run on batteries or on a rechargeable battery pack?
It runs on 4 AA batteries, and a set of alkaline batteries is included. With these, expect about 300 photos (CIPA standard) or 120 minutes of video at 1080p/30. NiMH AA rechargeable batteries are accepted, but not included.
Do you need to buy a memory card, and up to what capacity?
Yes, the internal memory is limited to approximately 67 MB. The camera accepts SD, SDHC and SDXC cards up to 512 GB; MMC cards are not supported. Allow for plenty of space: photos go up to 4608 × 3456 pixels and videos up to Full HD.
How good is the video side of the Kodak Pixpro AZ255?
It films in Full HD 1080p at 30 fps, in 720p at 60 or 30 fps, and offers a high-speed mode in 640 × 480 at 120 fps for slow motion. Files are recorded as MOV, with Motion JPEG video and linear PCM mono audio. A Movie mode is available directly among the shooting modes.
How far does the flash reach?
About 0.5 to 7.1 m at wide angle at ISO 800, but only 2.5 to 4.2 m at the telephoto position: don't count on it to light a distant subject when zoomed in. The flash is retractable and offers auto, red-eye reduction, fill-in and slow sync modes.
What is in the box and how do you transfer photos?
The box contains 4 AA alkaline batteries, a USB cable, a wrist strap, a lens cap with its strap, a service card, the quick start guide and the warranty card. Transfer to a computer is via USB 2.0, 5-pin micro connector.
Is it easy to take travelling?
It weighs 336 g body only and measures 113.6 × 77.7 × 69.7 mm: it is a bridge camera, not a pocket compact. It operates from 0 to 40 °C and up to 90% humidity, and its menus are available in 27 languages.
What framing aids does it offer to help you get good photos?
Autofocus is 9-point TTL multi-area, with object tracking and face, smile, blink, dog and cat detection. Added to that are HDR, panorama up to 360° and built-in retouching: red-eye removal, skin softening, eye brightening and eye enlargement.
Is the camera new and under warranty?
