Frequently asked questions about this product

Is the terabyte worthwhile on an iPhone 17 Pro?
It is if you shoot in ProRes RAW 4K at 120 fps: this raw format fills storage at a rapid pace. Combined with the Thunderbolt 3 port at 40 Gbps, it lets you shoot session after session without emptying the device in between.
What is the iPhone 17 Pro's Camera Control button for?
It is a physical control dedicated to taking pictures: it opens the camera and gives access to its settings without going through the touchscreen, which changes how the phone handles when you take photos often or with one hand.
How do you unlock the iPhone 17 Pro?
With Face ID, facial recognition provided by the 12 MP TrueDepth module on the front, which is also used for selfies and video calls.
Does the iPhone 17 Pro support millimetre-wave 5G?
Yes: its connectivity covers sub-6 GHz and mmWave 5G, alongside Wi-Fi 7 and the U2 UWB chip. mmWave refers to the highest 5G bands, which deliver the fastest speeds where they are deployed.
Does the iPhone 17 Pro come with its power adapter?
No: the 20 W USB-C power adapter is sold separately. Otherwise, the phone will charge at the power of your current charger. Any sufficiently powerful USB-C adapter will do.
What battery life is quoted for the iPhone 17 Pro?
Up to 37 hours of video playback — a specific measurement, not to be confused with a day of mixed use. That is ten hours less than the Max version, the gap reflecting the difference in size between the two models.
What is the iPhone 17 Pro's Thunderbolt 3 for?
For moving large files: its USB-C port reaches 40 Gbps, eight times the speed of USB 3.2 Gen 1. With ProRes RAW 4K at 120 fps footage, it makes the difference between a few minutes and a long wait.
What is the point of the ProRes RAW format on the iPhone 17 Pro?
It keeps the raw sensor data: exposure, white balance and colour curve can still be adjusted in editing without degrading the image. Recording goes up to 4K at 120 frames per second, and Dolby Vision is supported.
What optical zoom does the iPhone 17 Pro offer?
A 48 MP periscope telephoto providing 4x optical zoom. It complements the Fusion wide-angle camera and the ultra-wide, both also 48 MP — a uniform resolution that avoids a drop in quality between lenses.
Is the iPhone 17 Pro suitable for sound recording?
It has four studio-quality mics and stereo speakers with spatial audio. This lets you capture an interview or ambient sound directly on the device, in keeping with its professional video modes.
Is the iPhone 17 Pro new and under warranty?
