This product is covered for 1 year by a manufacturer's warranty (the brand's official warranty). Your iris.ma invoice serves as the warranty document: keep it safe.

The Sony FE 100mm F2.8 STF GM OSS is a portrait prime with a truly distinctive rendering: its apodization element gradually softens the edges of out-of-focus areas, producing remarkably smooth backgrounds with no double edges or hard-edged circles. Your subject, meanwhile, stands out with the fine detail you expect from a G Master. It reaches a 1:4 magnification ratio at close focus, so it also handles detail and still-life work. OSS optical stabilisation and a de-clickable aperture ring, silent in continuous mode, make it just as capable for video. A lens with real character for portraits, weddings and fine-art photography.

What is the apodization element in this Sony lens?
An element that progressively softens the edges of the background blur instead of leaving them sharp. That is what the STF acronym refers to: bokeh without hard outlines, sought after in portraiture.
Why does this lens state two apertures?
Because the apodization element absorbs light: the geometric aperture is F2.8, but the effective aperture is T5.6. It is the T-value that determines the actual exposure.
Can you shoot close-ups with this lens?
Yes: magnification reaches 1:4 (0.25x). This is not macro in the strict sense — a true macro lens reaches 1:1 — but it is enough for a tight close-up.
Is this lens stabilised?
Yes: it features Sony's SteadyShot optical stabiliser. Useful at 100 mm, especially as the effective T5.6 aperture often forces a slower shutter speed.
