Two tracks, two independent settings
The two combo inputs arrive on two separate tracks in the software. Each has its own gain, its own INST button for a passive guitar or bass, its own Vintage preamp and its own 76 compressor: the voice can use the VOC preset while the guitar keeps GTR. Only the 48 V phantom power is shared, sent to both XLR inputs at once.
The grain of a 610, with no tube to warm up
The Vintage button switches in a fully analogue stage that recreates the colour of the UA 610 tube preamp from Universal Audio's consoles. It works on mic, line or instrument sources and is set with the gain: raise it until you hear the saturation, then back off a little for a discreet grain.
A 76 compressor already set up
Also analogue, the 76 compressor is inspired by the 1176 limiter and offers three presets at a 6:1 ratio, plus an OFF position. Its fixed make-up gain raises the level: reset the gain once the preset is chosen.
- VOCAttack 2 ms, release 300 ms: a smoothed voice, with no jolts.
- GTRAttack 1.5 ms, release 700 ms: the pick attack gets through, the note sustains.
- FASTAttack 30 µs, release 35 ms: the firmest compression of the three.
Two sources at once, with no mixing desk alongside.Direct monitoring, in stereo or mono
The Direct button sends the inputs to the headphones and speakers with no latency, without going through the software. Lit orange, it spreads the two inputs left and right, for a stereo source; lit blue, it brings them to the centre, which suits a voice accompanied by a guitar. Off, the inputs are only heard through the software, with its delay.
At the back: speakers, MIDI and backup power
Two balanced TRS monitor outputs for active speakers, 5-pin DIN MIDI In and Out sockets for a keyboard or a synthesizer, and the USB-C port running USB 2.0, which powers the interface. The 5 V DC input takes over on a port that is too weak or to spare an iPad's battery, with the supplied USB-A to barrel cable.
From Mac to iPad, with no driver to hunt for
Class compliant, the Volt 276 works on macOS 11 or later and on iPad or iPhone running iOS 14, with no driver. On 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, the UA Connect app installs the ASIO driver; it also registers the interface and unlocks LUNA, Universal Audio's digital audio workstation, with a bundle of UAD plug-ins for Mac and PC.

The Monitor outputs are not amplified: they need active speakers or an amplifier. Headphones with a 3.5 mm plug need an adapter to 6.35 mm.

Does the Volt 276 need a mains power supply?
No when the USB port meets the USB 2.0 standard: the Volt 276 is powered through the supplied USB cable. A 5 V DC input (5.5 × 2.1 mm barrel, centre positive) takes over if the port or hub is too weak, or to spare an iPad's battery: the USB-A to barrel cable is included, to plug into a USB charger. In typical use, the interface draws 3.5 W.
Can you record two sources at the same time on the Volt 276?
Yes: its two XLR / 6.35 mm jack combo inputs arrive on two separate tracks, each with its own gain, Vintage preamp, 76 compressor and INST button. A voice and a guitar, two mics on an acoustic guitar or a keyboard in stereo can be recorded together. The 48 V, however, applies to both XLR inputs at once.
What is the Vintage button on the Volt 276 for?
It switches in a fully analogue stage that recreates the colour of the UA 610 tube preamp. Each input has its own; it works on the mic, line or instrument and lights orange when active. It is set with the gain: raise it until you hear the saturation, then back off a little for a more discreet grain.
How do you choose the 76 compressor preset?
Each press cycles through VOC, GTR, FAST and OFF. VOC attacks in 2 ms and releases in 300 ms for a smoothed voice, GTR lets the attack through (1.5 ms / 700 ms) and extends sustain, FAST (30 µs / 35 ms) compresses hard. The ratio is 6:1 and a fixed make-up gain raises the level: reset the gain after switching it on.
What does the DIRECT button change when orange or blue?
It sends the inputs back to the headphones and speakers with no latency. In orange, the two inputs are spread left and right, for a stereo source; in blue, both are in the centre, in mono, for a voice and a guitar. Then mute the track's monitoring in the software, otherwise the signal arrives twice. Off, the button lets you hear the inputs through the software, with its delay.
Does the Volt 276 work with an iPad or an iPhone?
Yes, on iOS 14 or later: the interface is class compliant, with no driver to install. An iPad with a USB-C port connects with a USB-C cable, others with the Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. The supplied software, LUNA included, does not run on iOS: it is for Mac and PC. The 5 V DC input avoids draining the device's battery.
What software comes with the Volt 276?
The LUNA digital audio workstation and the UAD Explore FREE plug-in bundle, activated by registering the interface on a Universal Audio account with the UA Connect app. These licences cannot be transferred to another user. On Windows, UA Connect also installs the interface's ASIO driver; macOS needs none.
Can you connect passive speakers to the Monitor outputs?
No: the monitor outputs are not amplified. They expect active speakers or an amplifier, connected with 6.35 mm jacks, preferably balanced TRS to limit interference over cable runs. The Monitor knob sets their volume, independently of the headphones, which receive the same signal. Their maximum level reaches 15 dBu.
