The AT-LP60X is a fully automatic turntable: put the record on, press START, the tonearm comes down by itself and returns by itself at the end of the side. Its built-in phono preamp connects it to powered speakers or a stereo that have no phono input.

Playback starts with a single gesture
Before playback, a selector sets the record size: 12 inches for a 30 cm 33 rpm record, 7 inches for an 18 cm 45 rpm record. START lowers the tonearm onto the first groove; at the end of the side, it lifts and returns to its rest, then the platter stops. STOP interrupts playback at any time, and a lift button raises or lowers the stylus at a chosen point of the record, without ever touching the cartridge with your finger.

A cartridge signal is too weak for an ordinary input: it needs a phono preamp. The AT-LP60X has one built in, with 36 dB of gain and RIAA equalisation. A rear switch selects the output: LINE, at 150 mV, for the AUX input of powered speakers, a stereo or a sound card; PHONO, at 2.5 mV, for an amplifier that already has its own phono input. The supplied 3.5 mm mini-jack to dual RCA cable makes the connection.

A revised version of the AT-LP60, the AT-LP60X gets a redesigned tonearm base and headshell to track the groove better and reduce resonance. The die-cast aluminium platter also limits resonance, and power comes from an external 12 V AC adapter: current conversion takes place outside the chassis, away from the cartridge signal.
Maintenance comes down to two parts
The stylus is removed by pivoting it forwards and is replaced with the ATN3600LC, Audio-Technica advising a change about every 400 hours of listening. The belt, a wear part, is changed once a year, or as soon as the speed slows down.

On first installation, the belt is already under the platter: align an opening of the platter with the brass motor pulley, slip the belt over it by pulling on the red ribbon, then remove the ribbon. The turntable does not play 78 rpm records.

Can the turntable be connected directly to powered speakers?
Yes. Set the rear switch to LINE: the built-in preamp then delivers a 150 mV line level, to connect to the AUX input of powered speakers, a stereo or a sound card. On an amplifier with a PHONO input, choose the PHONO position (2.5 mV). The 3.5 mm mini-jack to dual RCA cable, about 1.2 m long, is included.
Is the turntable really automatic?
Yes. Pressing START lowers the tonearm onto the record; at the end of the side, it lifts and returns to its rest by itself, then the platter stops. STOP interrupts playback at any time, and the lift button lets you lower or raise the tonearm at a chosen point of the record, without touching the cartridge.
Which records can it play?
33 and 45 rpm records, 30 cm or 18 cm in diameter: a 12" / 7" size selector is set according to the record before the automatic start, and a 45 rpm adapter is included for records with a large centre hole. The turntable does not run at 78 rpm; its two speeds are 33 1/3 and 45 rpm.
How do I replace the stylus?
The Dual Magnet cartridge is fixed to the headshell, but its stylus can be replaced on its own: pivot it forwards and downwards to remove it, then slide in the new one until it clicks. Audio-Technica advises replacing it about every 400 hours of listening; the replacement stylus is the ATN3600LC.
Does the belt need to be fitted on delivery?
Yes, only once. The belt is already fitted under the platter: align an opening of the platter with the brass motor pulley, slip the belt onto the pulley by pulling on the red ribbon, then remove the ribbon. As a wear part, the belt is replaced about once a year, or as soon as the speed slows down.
How is the turntable powered?
By an external 12 V, 2 A AC adapter, supplied with a cord of about 1.5 m, compatible with 100 to 240 V mains. Power conversion takes place outside the chassis, which keeps a source of noise away from the cartridge signal. The turntable consumes about 1 W in operation.
