A large diaphragm,
without the hiss.

The AT2035 is a 20 Series studio condenser microphone with a large diaphragm and a cardioid pattern. It connects over XLR to an audio interface, a mixer or a preamp, and comes out of the box ready to set up: shock mount, thread adapter and pouch are included.

Quiet enough for a soft voice

With 12 dB SPL of A-weighted self-noise and an 82 dB signal-to-noise ratio, a spoken or softly sung voice stays well above the hiss of the electronics. The capsule covers 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a sensitivity of -33 dB, and a flatter response than the AT2020: the sound is natural and can be shaped later in the mix. Singers, podcasters, voice-over artists and content creators use it at home as in the studio.

Two switches for loud sources

On the body, an 80 Hz high-pass filter, 12 dB per octave, cuts rumble, handling noise and the excess bass of a voice sung very close. Next to it, the -10 dB pad keeps the capsule from overloading in front of brass, drums or a powerful voice: handling rises from 148 to 158 dB SPL. Acoustic or electric guitars suit it as well as vocals.

The shock mount is in the box

The AT8458 shock mount screws onto a 5/8"-27 stand, and the supplied adapter fits 3/8"-16 stands. It isolates the microphone from vibrations coming through the stand and the floor. The aluminium body and steel grille then go back into the protective pouch.

The AT2035 only works with 11 to 52 V phantom power, supplied by the interface or the mixer. No XLR cable is included: plan for a balanced 3-pin cable.

Does the AT2035 work without phantom power?

No. It is a condenser microphone: it must receive 11 to 52 V DC phantom power through its XLR cable, with a typical draw of 3.8 mA. Any audio interface, mixer or preamp with an XLR input and phantom power will do. The microphone has no USB port, and no XLR cable is supplied.

What are the AT2035's 80 Hz filter and -10 dB pad for?

They are two switches on the microphone body. The 80 Hz high-pass filter, 12 dB per octave, removes unwanted low end: rumble, handling noise, proximity effect on a voice. The -10 dB pad is for very loud sources, brass or drums: the microphone then accepts 158 dB SPL instead of 148 dB SPL.

What is in the AT2035 box?

The microphone, its AT8458 shock mount for 5/8"-27 threaded stands, a threaded adapter to 3/8"-16 and a protective pouch. There is no XLR cable and no stand: plan for a balanced 3-pin XLR cable and a microphone stand or arm to set it up in front of the source.

What is the difference between the AT2035 and the AT2020?

The AT2035 has a flatter response, for a natural, detailed sound; the AT2020 puts more emphasis on the mids and highs, which helps a voice cut through a mix. The AT2035 also adds an 80 Hz filter, a -10 dB pad and a supplied shock mount, which the AT2020 does not have.

Is the AT2035 suitable for recording a guitar or drums?

Yes. Its 20 Hz to 20 kHz response makes it as useful on acoustic and electric guitars as on vocals. For powerful sources, brass or drums, the -10 dB pad raises its handling from 148 to 158 dB SPL. Its cardioid pattern attenuates what comes from the rear and sides, isolating the targeted instrument.
