The AT2050 is a 20 Series studio condenser microphone with a dual diaphragm. A selector on its body switches it from cardioid to omnidirectional or figure-of-eight: the same microphone serves a single voice, a whole room or two sources facing each other.

Choose what the microphone hears

In cardioid, it picks up the front and attenuates the rear: a single voice or instrument. In omnidirectional, it listens all around: the room, a group gathered in front of the microphone. In figure-of-eight, it takes the front and rear and rejects the sides: two voices facing each other. The gold-vaporized dual diaphragm keeps a precise pattern across the whole range, from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

From piano to guitar amp

Vocals, piano, strings, percussion, guitar amps: the AT2050 lends itself to all these takes, in the studio as on stage. It handles 149 dB SPL, and its -10 dB pad raises that to 159 dB SPL in front of a very loud source. The 80 Hz high-pass filter, 12 dB per octave, limits hum, handling noise and interference below 80 Hz.

Supplied ready to mount

The AT8458 shock mount screws onto a 5/8"-27 stand, with an adapter for 3/8"-16 stands, and isolates the microphone from vibrations of the support. A soft pouch protects the microphone in storage and on the move.

The AT2050 requires 11 to 52 V phantom power (4.7 mA) on its XLR input. The XLR cable is not supplied: plan for a balanced 3-pin cable.

Which polar pattern should I choose on the AT2050?

Cardioid for a single voice or instrument: the microphone picks up the front and attenuates the rear. Omnidirectional to capture all around the microphone, the room or a group. Figure-of-eight for two sources facing each other: front and rear are captured, the sides rejected. The selector is on the microphone body.

Does the AT2050 need phantom power?

Yes. It receives 11 to 52 V DC through its XLR cable, with a typical draw of 4.7 mA. An audio interface, mixer or preamp with an XLR input and phantom power is enough. The microphone has no USB port, and no XLR cable comes in the box: plan for a balanced 3-pin one.

What is in the AT2050 box?

The microphone, its AT8458 shock mount for 5/8"-27 threaded stands, a threaded adapter to 3/8"-16 and a protective pouch. Plan for a 3-pin XLR cable and a microphone stand or arm. The shock mount isolates the microphone from vibrations coming through the stand or the desk.
