How do you call up the voice assistant from the JBL Live 770NC?
In two ways: with the wake word — “Alexa” or “Hey Google” — or with a press on the ear cup. Starting a playlist, sending a message or asking for the weather can therefore be done without taking the phone out of your pocket.
How much battery life is left for calls on these headphones?
28 hours with noise cancelling on, 33 hours without it. For music, the figures rise to 50 hours with noise cancelling on and 65 hours without. These are four distinct figures: it is your use that decides which one to go by.
What happens if I take the headphones off mid-listen?
The music pauses, and it resumes as soon as the headphones are back on your head. The behaviour is automatic: nothing to enable, nothing to touch, and the podcast does not keep playing while you talk to someone.
Can you adjust the strength of the noise cancelling?
Yes, the JBL Headphones app lets you customise the noise cancelling and the headphones' behaviour, in addition to the sound settings. The system also remains adaptive: four mics measure the surroundings continuously.
Do the headphones automatically reconnect to my PC?
Yes: on an Android or Windows device, they set themselves up to connect automatically as soon as they are nearby. JBL also mentions the Google Finder service, which helps locate lost headphones.
How long does it take to charge the Live 770NC?
3 hours from empty, on an 850 mAh battery, via USB-C cable. And if you are short on time, 5 minutes of charging gives back 4 hours of music, enough to cover a round trip.
Can you listen with the black Live 770NC when the battery is flat?
Yes, a detachable audio cable comes with the headphones: plugged in via the jack, it lets you listen without battery power, and it widens the frequency response to 20 Hz – 40 kHz compared with 20 Hz – 20 kHz over Bluetooth.
Are these headphones as suited to remote working as to commuting?
Yes: multipoint keeps the computer and the phone connected together, the 2 beamforming mics handle calls, and Smart Ambient mode lets you answer a colleague without taking the headphones off.
How good are the Live 770NC's 40 mm drivers?
They cover 20 Hz to 20 kHz with an impedance of 32 ohms and a sensitivity of 100 dB: the headphones therefore make do with a phone's output. They also deliver spatial sound, which turns a stereo source into virtual surround.
