What is the USB port on the Ellipse ECO EL650USBFR for?
It lets the Eaton software shut down the PC properly if the power cut goes on: automatic shutdown, alerts and event history. The USB cable is supplied, and the software is compatible with Windows, macOS and Linux. This is what sets this version apart from the model without USB in the same range.
What does the EcoControl function of this UPS do?
It automatically switches off peripherals on standby when the master device shuts down: the monitor, printer and speakers no longer draw power all night because the PC is off. This function is only available on the USB models in the range.
How long does the EL650USBFR run on battery?
9 minutes at 50% load, i.e. 200 W, and 6 minutes at 70%, i.e. 280 W. These are the two benchmarks to compare with your setup: it is the load actually plugged in, not the 650 VA in the name, that determines the runtime.
Are all four outlets battery-backed?
No: three French outlets run on battery; the fourth is surge-only. Keep the first three for the desktop tower, the monitor and the internet box, and save the fourth for a device that can switch off without consequences.
Does the UPS protect the telephone and internet line?
Yes, its built-in surge protection, compliant with the IEC 61643-1 standard, also covers data lines: telephone, modem, internet and Ethernet. A surge arriving through the line destroys an internet box just as surely as a spike on the mains.
How do you install a unit that is 81 mm thick?
Vertically under a desk, flat under a monitor, or wall-mounted — the extra-flat Ellipse ECO format is designed for all three. It measures 263 mm high, 81 wide and 235 deep: one of the most compact UPS units in its category.
Does this UPS regulate the mains voltage?
No, it has no AVR regulator: as an off-line model, it passes mains power through as long as it stays within the 184-264 V range — adjustable from 161 to 284 V — and switches to battery outside it. On a highly fluctuating grid, a line-interactive UPS is easier on the battery.
Can the battery be replaced, and does the UPS give warnings?
Yes, the sealed lead-acid battery is replaceable, and an automatic periodic self-test detects the problem before it happens. LED indicators and an audible alarm complete the signalling.
What happens in the event of an overload, and does the UPS start without mains power?
A resettable circuit breaker cuts the power and is brought back into service at the press of a button, with no fuse to change. And yes, the unit supports cold start: it switches on from the battery even with no power present.
What is in the box of the EL650USBFR?
