550 VA or 330 W: how much power can I actually connect?
It is the 330 W that counts, the only figure comparable with the actual consumption of your devices. The 550 VA is the apparent power, with a power factor of 0.6. So add up the watts of the desktop tower, the monitor and the internet box before making your choice.
Are all four outlets battery-backed?
No: three French outlets are battery-backed, while the fourth is surge-protected only. Reserve it for the printer or a charger, and keep the other three for the desktop tower, the monitor and the internet box, which must keep running through the power cut. All are standard French outlets: no adapter is needed.
What is in the box, and do I need an adapter to plug in my devices?
Your devices plug in directly: the four outputs are French sockets. On the mains side, the UPS connects via an IEC C14 inlet and its 1.5 m input cord is supplied, along with the quick start guide and the safety instructions. Neither software nor a communication cable is included.
Can the UPS be connected to the PC so that it shuts it down cleanly during a power cut?
No. This model has no communication interface — no USB, no Ethernet, no card slot — and automatic shutdown is not available. It takes over and protects, but shutting down the workstation remains manual: the status is shown by the LED indicators on the front.
Does it correct voltage fluctuations outside of power cuts?
No, there is no voltage stabiliser. With offline technology, power passes straight through as long as it stays within the 184–264 V range, adjustable up to 161–284 V; outside it, the UPS switches to battery. Surge protection, meanwhile, works at all times.
Is the battery replaceable once it is worn?
Yes. It is a single 12 V / 4.5 Ah sealed lead-acid battery, replaceable: the UPS lasts much longer than its first battery. An automatic test monitors it, and deep-discharge protection prevents it from being damaged. No additional battery pack is available.
Can it be switched on when the power is already out?
Yes, it has cold start capability: it starts up on its battery alone, with no mains power. Enough to restart an internet box or a workstation in the middle of a power cut without waiting for the grid to come back. It also accepts an input frequency of 46 to 70 Hz.
Is it noisy, and how much space does it take up on a desk?
It stays below 25 dB at one metre, so it is almost inaudible in a quiet room. Its tower format is narrow — 81 mm wide, 235 mm deep, 263 mm high, weighing 3 kg: it slips in against a desk leg or into an open cabinet. Black, insulated-construction housing, to be stood upright.
Which standards and certifications does this Eaton 3P550F UPS cover?
Its surge protection meets the IEC 61643-11 standard, and the unit is certified to IEC/EN 62040-1, 62040-2 and 62040-3 — covering UPS safety, electromagnetic compatibility and performance. On top of that come the CE marking, UKCA and the RoHS, WEEE and Batteries Directives.
Can it withstand the heat of a non-air-conditioned room?
It is rated for a range of 0 to 40 °C, humidity of 0 to 95% non-condensing and an altitude of up to 3,000 m. Its 97% efficiency at full load limits the heat given off during operation. On the mains side, it operates at 50-60 Hz nominal and accepts 220, 230 or 240 V alike.
What is the difference from the 3P700F model in the same range?
The housing is identical — same dimensions, same four FR outlets, same offline technology. The 3P700F, however, goes up to 700 VA / 420 W with a 12 V / 7 Ah battery instead of the 4.5 Ah here, and weighs 3.7 kg versus 3 kg: it stores more energy. Both share the same IEC/EN 62040 certifications.
Is the UPS new and under warranty?
Yes: a new and sealed unit, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the 1-year warranty document. The full specifications, including electrical compliance, are given in the Eaton datasheet (PDF).
