Can the EL500FR be connected to a computer for automatic shutdown?
No: this version has neither a communication port nor software, unlike the USB models in the same range. It protects and takes over, but cannot trigger the shutdown of the computer.
How long does the EL500FR run on battery?
9 minutes at 50% load, i.e. 150 W, and 5 minutes at 70%, i.e. 210 W. These figures correspond to a light workstation: it is a backup UPS, to be kept for the essentials.
What can you really plug into a 500 VA?
300 W, i.e. a power factor of 0.6. That covers the essentials — an office desktop tower, an internet box, a recorder — but not a complete workstation with a large monitor and peripherals.
How many of the four outlets stay powered during a power cut?
Three. The fourth is a surge-only outlet: it protects against voltage spikes but switches off along with the mains. Plan your connections accordingly before the first power cut, not during it.
Does the UPS protect the telephone line and the network?
Yes, its built-in surge protector, compliant with the IEC 61643-1 standard, also covers the data lines: telephone, modem, internet and Ethernet. That is a real asset on a unit in this category.
How much space does the EL500FR take up, and is it noisy?
81 mm thick for 235 × 263 mm and only 2.9 kg — the lightest in the range. It runs at under 25 dBA and can stand upright under a desk or lie flat under a monitor.
Does the EL500FR regulate the mains voltage?
No, there is no AVR regulator: as an off-line unit, it passes mains power through as long as it stays within the 184-264 V range — adjustable from 161 to 284 V — and switches to battery outside it.
Can the battery be replaced, and are you warned in time?
Yes, the sealed lead-acid battery is replaceable, and an automatic periodic self-test detects the problem before it occurs. LED indicators and an audible alarm signal when it is time to replace it.
Is the Eaton Ellipse ECO EL500FR new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for 2 years. It supports cold start — switching on from battery with no mains power — and has a circuit breaker that can be reset after an overload. The datasheet compares the models.
