Frequently asked questions about this product

What is the maximum memory card size the DC8200 accepts?
32 GB maximum, in SD format. The 16 GB card supplied is enough to get started; if you ever replace it, stay within this 32 GB limit.
What is supplied in the box with the camera?
Seven items: the camera, a lithium-ion battery, a USB cable, a 16 GB SD card, a storage pouch, a wrist strap and the user manual. Simply charge the battery before the first session.
Is the 8X zoom optical or digital?
Optical. It is a true 8X optical zoom: you get closer to the subject without degrading the image, unlike a digital zoom, which merely enlarges the pixels. Anti-shake stabilisation is included, useful at the telephoto end.
Can you film in 4K with the DC8200?
No. Video goes up to Full HD 1080p at 30 frames per second, with HD 720p and VGA modes below that, in AVI files. If you are looking for 4K, this compact is not the right choice.
How do you get good photos at night or against the light with this compact?
Six scene modes are provided for this: Auto, Night Portrait, Night Landscape, Landscape, Building and Sunset. The IGBT flash can be set to automatic, forced, off or red-eye reduction, and exposure compensation ranges from -2 EV to +2 EV.
Can you take a group photo and be in it?
Yes, thanks to the self-timer, adjustable to 2, 5 or 10 seconds: set the camera down, frame the shot, press the shutter, then join the group. Ten seconds gives you time to cross a room.
How do you transfer the photos to a computer?
Using the USB cable supplied, as the camera has a USB 2.0 interface. Images are saved as JPEG, with a maximum resolution of 4896 × 3672 pixels, and videos as AVI.
Can you take it to the beach or hiking?
Yes, within its operating range of 0 to 40 °C: avoid leaving it in full sun on the sand or behind a windscreen. The storage pouch and wrist strap supplied are made for this kind of outing.
Can you correct the colours according to the room's lighting?
Yes, via the white balance: automatic, daylight, cloudy, incandescent or fluorescent lighting. Useful under office strip lights or the warm bulbs of a living room, where the automatic setting sometimes leaves a yellow or blue cast.
Is the camera new and under warranty?
It is new, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the 1-year warranty: it is the document to keep for any warranty claim. The model details are in the datasheet (PDF).
