How long does the BX1600MI-MS run on battery?
It depends entirely on what is plugged in: at full load, 900 W, it lasts one minute. The more headroom you leave between your actual consumption and that limit, the longer the runtime — which is why it pays not to load it to the maximum.
Why does 1600 VA only give 900 W?
Because the power factor is 0.56: only a little over half of the apparent power is actually usable. So it is 900 W that you should compare with the combined consumption of your workstation.
