Frequently asked questions about this product

Can the BR650MI battery be changed without switching anything off?
Yes, the APCRBC110 cartridge is hot-swappable and you can replace it yourself, without shutting down the UPS or the devices it powers. This is what lets the unit last well beyond its first battery.
How much load can you connect to the BR650MI?
390 W, for a rated 650 VA. That is enough for a desktop PC and its monitor, or a NAS with its internet box and router: add up the watts printed on the power supplies, never the VA in the product name.
Are all six outlets on the BR650MI battery-backed?
Yes, all six C13 outputs are powered by the battery and protected against surges — none is limited to surge protection only. The input is via a 1.83 m C14 cord.
Can the BR650MI shut down a NAS by itself?
Yes: connected via USB, it triggers a clean shutdown of a PC or a NAS when its battery is nearly exhausted. The USB cable and the PowerChute Serial Shutdown software are included.
Does the BR650MI protect the network connection?
Yes, two RJ-45 ports pass through the unit and protect the line against surges, up to gigabit speed: the network cable runs through the UPS without losing throughput. This is the classic way for lightning to reach a workstation.
What is the Greenmode on the BR650MI for?
It is an energy-saving mode: the UPS adjusts its operation to reduce its own consumption while keeping the protection. On a unit that is always on, the difference shows up directly on the electricity bill.
Over what voltage range does the BR650MI correct without using the battery?
Between 176 and 294 V. Within this range, the customisable AVR corrects low and high voltages without discharging the battery: it stays full for real power cuts and lasts longer.
Can the BR650MI be switched on without mains power?
Yes, cold start is possible: the UPS starts up on its battery alone, with a power cut already under way. An automatic self-test also checks the condition of this battery periodically.
Does the BR650MI have a fan?
No, it is passively cooled: no fan runs continuously. It measures only 91 mm wide, 310 deep and 190 high, and weighs 6.4 kg — it slips upright against a piece of furniture.
How long does the BR650MI take to recharge?
12 hours for a full recharge, on a sealed lead-acid battery with a rated service life of up to 5 years. After a long power cut, give it time to fully recharge before relying on it again.
Is the APC Back-UPS Pro BR650MI new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. Its LCD screen shows the status at a glance, and three separate alarms signal switching to battery, low battery and overload.
