Product overview

Frequently asked questions about this product

How long does the UPS really last on battery with my workstation?
It all depends on the connected load: 22 minutes at 25% load, 8 minutes at 50% (450 W), 2 minutes at 75% and less than a minute at full load. The aim is to save your work and shut down properly, not to keep working for another hour.
Why does 1500 VA give only 900 W of usable power?
Because the power factor is 0.6, measured at nominal voltage and full load: 1500 VA × 0.6 = 900 W. It is this wattage that you should compare with the actual consumption of your equipment — a PC, one or two monitors and their accessories — and not the VA highlighted on the packaging.
Is the battery output a pure sine wave?
No. In battery mode, the waveform is a simulated sine wave, at 230 V and 50/60 Hz ± 1%, with a voltage accuracy of ± 10%. If your equipment strictly requires a pure sine wave, this line-interactive model is not the right choice.
Are all four outlets backed by the battery?
Yes, all four Schuko outlets are powered by the battery during a power cut, and protected against overload, surges and short circuits. They are complemented by two RJ11/45 ports (in/out) that protect the modem, telephone or network line against surges.
Is the battery replaceable at the end of its life?
Yes. The Keen 1500 houses two internal GP09122L batteries, and nJoy lists sealed, maintenance-free replacement batteries (GP09122F, HR09122F, GPL09122F), some of them with a 24-month extended warranty. The batteries are internal only.
How long does it take to recharge the battery after a power cut?
Allow about 6 hours to get back to 90% capacity. Charging is automatic and continues with the unit switched off: you do not need to leave the UPS on for it to recover.
Is there an LCD screen to monitor the load and the battery?
No, there is no LCD screen. Status is read from LED indicators backed by an audible alarm: load level, battery level, mains mode, battery mode and fault indicator. Monitoring from the computer goes through the USB port and nJoy's PowerMonitor software.
What does it do when the mains voltage drops or rises without a power cut?
It corrects it on its own, thanks to the automatic voltage regulator (AVR): it accepts an input between 162 and 290 V and delivers 230 V ± 10%. On an unstable grid, this is what supplies your equipment with stable power.
How quickly does it switch to battery when the power goes off?
The transfer time is 4 ms typically. When power returns, it restarts automatically and resumes charging the battery, without any action on your part.
Can it shut down the PC on its own if I am not in front of it?
Yes. The HID USB communication port lets the computer communicate with the UPS and trigger an automatic, clean shutdown before the battery runs out, via nJoy's PowerMonitor software. The USB driver for the Keen series is available from nJoy.
How much space does it take up, and is it noisy under a desk?
In tower format, it measures 298 × 148 × 178 mm and weighs 9.2 kg: it goes on the floor rather than on the desktop, and stays below 40 dB. Note the 1.2 m power cord: make sure a wall socket is close enough.
Is the nJoy Keen 1500 UPS new, and how long is it guaranteed?
It is new, sealed in its original packaging, and covered by a 3-year warranty, for which your invoice serves as proof. It complies with the CE and RoHS directives (2011/65/EU). Full details are given in the datasheet (PDF).
