This product is covered for 1 year by a manufacturer's warranty (the brand's official warranty). Your iris.ma invoice serves as the warranty document: keep it safe.

Frequently asked questions about this product

The RB5009 lists 8 ports: which ports exactly?
Eight copper Ethernet ports — seven Gigabit and one 2.5 Gbps — plus a 10G SFP+ cage for fibre, making 9 wired ports in all. All of them are connected to a Marvell 88E6393 switch, linked to the processor by a 10 Gbps full-duplex connection: copper and fibre coexist on the same device.
Can you connect access points to it to cover the premises with Wi-Fi?
Yes: you plug one or more access points into its Gigabit ports and place them wherever coverage is needed, without moving the router. The router keeps handling routing, switching and IPsec hardware acceleration for VPN tunnels.
Can it power my cameras or access points via PoE?
This model's 802.3af/at PoE is an input: it is the router itself that can be powered through Ethernet port 1. There are two other ways to power it: the DC jack or the 2-pin terminal block (5.08 mm) on the side. All three inputs accept the same range of 24 to 57 V.
Can you really fit four of them in a single 1U rack space?
Yes, the 220 × 125 × 22 mm case allows it, but the mounting hardware is an accessory: the box contains the 24 V 1.5 A power adapter, while the K-79 rack-mount kit is ordered separately. The chassis is made of metal, which also helps with cooling.
Does it make any noise when placed in an office?
No, it has no fan: cooling is entirely passive. The processor and the switch chip are mounted on the underside of the board so that the metal case acts as a heatsink across its entire surface. Its power consumption remains modest: 14 W without accessories and 25 W maximum.
Is it designed to stay on 24 hours a day?
Yes: its MTBF is around 200,000 hours at 25 °C and its tested temperature range runs from -40 °C to +60 °C, which comfortably covers an equipment room without air conditioning. A processor temperature sensor is built in to monitor heat build-up.
What is the USB 3.0 port on the RB5009 for?
It is a full-size USB 3.0 Type-A port that supplies up to 1.5 A, enough to connect a device powered directly by the port. Its power can be reset without physically touching it. It complements the 1 GB of NAND storage built into the board.
What operating system does it run, and with which licence?
RouterOS v7 only — version 6 is not supported on this board — with a level 5 licence included. The hardware has 1 GB of DDR4 RAM and 1 GB of NAND storage for the system and its packages. Everything runs on a 64-bit ARM architecture.
Is it powerful enough to run several VPN tunnels?
It is built around a Marvell Armada quad-core 64-bit ARMv8 processor, clocked automatically from 350 to 1,400 MHz, with IPsec hardware acceleration that offloads encryption from the processor. Under heavy loads, it delivers nearly twice the performance of MikroTik models of a comparable form factor.
Is the MikroTik RB5009UG+S+IN router new and under warranty?
Yes: a new and sealed router, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the 1-year warranty. The exact part number to keep is RB5009UG+S+IN. Details of the ports, power options and dimensions are in the MikroTik datasheet (PDF).
