Frequently asked questions about this product

Do you need a power socket near the CPE210?
No. It is powered over the network cable, using 24 V passive PoE, and the injector is supplied with its power cord: only this unit, which stays indoors, is plugged into the 100-240 V mains. At the top of the pole, a single Ethernet cable therefore carries both power and data.
Do the CPE210's 300 Mbps carry over to the network cable?
No: both Ethernet ports are 10/100, not Gigabit. The 300 Mbps is the theoretical radio data rate of the 802.11n standard; the traffic passing through the cable tops out at 100 Mbps. That is the real limit to keep in mind when sizing a link between two buildings.
Does the CPE210 also work on the 5 GHz band?
No, 2.4 GHz only, from 2.4 to 2.483 GHz, in 802.11b, g and n. It is a more congested band than 5 GHz, but it passes through vegetation and light obstacles better — which explains the choice for an outdoor link without a perfectly clear line of sight.
Do you need to add an antenna to the CPE210?
No, it is internal. The unit has a built-in 9 dBi dual-polarised directional antenna, with a beamwidth of 65° in azimuth and 40° in elevation, for a stated outdoor range of up to 5 km. This fairly wide beam is forgiving of small aiming errors, unlike narrow-beam models.
What is in the CPE210 box?
The CPE, its PoE injector, the power cord and the pole-mounting kit. Nothing else is needed for mounting. You still need to run the Ethernet cable between the injector and the outdoor unit, and to provide the pole or mast that will hold the assembly.
Can you isolate several networks on a single CPE210?
Yes, it supports VLANs, as well as MAC address filtering and IGMP filtering for multicast. Encryption ranges from WPA to WPA2-PSK, with AES or TKIP. Configuration is done through a web interface, and the Pharos Control software manages an entire fleet of devices from a single computer.
Can the CPE210 stay outdoors all year round?
Its enclosure is rated IPX5, protected against water jets, and it operates from -30 to 70 °C, at 10 to 90% humidity. It mounts on a pole and only exposes a reset button and a status LED, with no ventilation opening to protect.
How much space should you allow to install a CPE210?
224 × 79 × 60 mm. It is a flat, compact unit with low wind load, fastened with straps to a small-diameter pole. Its white colour and size allow it to remain discreet on a façade or along a roof edge.
Is the CPE210 new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The model carries the CE, FCC and RoHS markings, and is built around a 560 MHz Qualcomm Atheros MIPS 74Kc processor backed by 64 MB of RAM and 8 MB of flash memory.
