Can memory be added to this ThinkPad X9-15?
No. The 32 GB of LPDDR5x-8533 is soldered to the motherboard, in dual channel: there is no memory slot, and the machine's maximum remains 32 GB. The configuration you buy today will therefore be the one it keeps for its whole life — that is the trade-off of this 12.9 mm chassis.
Is the SSD replaceable, and up to what capacity?
Yes, but mind the form factor: a single M.2 2242 slot PCIe 4.0 x4, shorter than the usual 2280. It accepts up to 2 TB. The supplied drive is a 1 TB NVMe Opal 2.0-compliant SSD, i.e. with hardware encryption; since there is only one slot, gaining capacity means replacing the original drive.
Is there an Ethernet port or an SD card reader?
No to both. This machine has no built-in Ethernet and no card reader, nor a SIM slot or mobile broadband module. Wired networking and memory cards therefore go through a USB-C adapter or a Thunderbolt 4 docking station, which is widely supported.
What exactly are the ports, and can it be charged through any of them?
Two 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 USB-C ports, both with USB Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 2.1: charging therefore works through either one. On top of these come a 10 Gbps “Always On” USB-A port, an HDMI 2.1 port up to 4K/60 Hz and a 3.5 mm headphone/mic jack.
Which charger is supplied, and how long does recharging take?
A compact 65 W USB-C Slim GaN charger with a 3-pin plug. The 80 Wh battery supports RapidCharge: 80% charge in 60 minutes, provided you use an adapter of 65 W or more. It can also be charged from any USB-C source compliant with Power Delivery 3.0.
Is the keyboard AZERTY, and can it withstand a spilled glass?
Yes: a backlit French AZERTY keyboard with white LEDs and 1.35 mm key travel, and it is spill-resistant up to 500 ml. The touchpad is haptic and made of glass, in a generous 130 × 80 mm size.
Does a glossy OLED panel strain your eyes in the office?
This one is treated to prevent that: anti-reflective and anti-smudge coating, 500 nits of brightness and a variable refresh rate from 30 to 120 Hz. It is certified Eyesafe 2.0 and TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort 5 Star, two visual comfort labels.
Is the display suitable for colour work, photo or video?
Yes: 2.8K (2880 × 1800), 100% of the DCI-P3 colour space, factory colour calibration, DisplayHDR True Black 600 certification and Dolby Vision support. It is a panel built for photo retouching and video editing, not just for office work.
Is it sturdy enough to be carried every day?
It has passed MIL-STD-810H military tests, with an aluminium chassis on the top and bottom covers. It weighs 1.4 kg for 339.55 × 228.5 × 12.9 mm, and its 65 W GaN charger is a slim model: the whole set fits in a laptop sleeve without weighing down your bag.
How is it unlocked, and can the webcam be covered?
Two biometric methods: a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button (Match-on-Chip, the fingerprint never leaves the chip) and Windows Hello facial recognition via an infrared camera. The webcam has an electronic shutter (E-shutter), complemented by a ToF presence-detection sensor, and encryption relies on a dedicated TPM 2.0.
What does the NPU actually bring, and is this a Copilot+ PC?
Yes, it is a Copilot+ PC. The Intel AI Boost NPU in the Core Ultra 7 258V reaches 47 TOPS, above the 40 TOPS threshold required for the category. It runs the Lenovo Aura smart modes — camera tuning in meetings, screen blurring if someone looks over your shoulder, battery life optimisation — as well as Lenovo AI Now, supplied out of the box with Windows 11 Pro.
Is there a dedicated graphics card for gaming or 3D?
No, there is no dedicated graphics card: graphics rely on the Intel Arc Graphics 140V integrated into the processor, backed by 32 GB of dual-channel memory at 8,533 MT/s. A consistent choice for a 12.9 mm thick chassis.
The screen is touch-enabled: can you use a stylus on it?
No. The panel is indeed touch-enabled — 10 touch points, via an added touch layer — but the stylus is not supported on this configuration. It is operated by finger and with the glass haptic touchpad.
What warranty covers this ThinkPad, and until when will it be supported?
A new machine with a 3-year warranty (courier pick-up and return, or carry-in to a service centre), with a Premier Support upgrade included: a direct line to Lenovo expert technicians 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with OEM hardware and software coverage. Support for this model runs until 5 August 2031; full details are in the Lenovo datasheet (PDF).
What is its environmental record?
It holds ENERGY STAR 9.0, EPEAT Gold, TCO Certified 10.0, RoHS and ErP Lot 6/26. As for materials: 50% recycled aluminium in the covers and keyboard frame, 100% recycled cobalt in the battery cell, and 85 to 90% post-consumer recycled plastic in the keycaps, battery compartment and adapter. The offer includes a 0.5-tonne CO₂ offset.
