Frequently asked questions about this product

Where do the 34 hours of battery life claimed for the Boombox 4 come from?
From two combined sources: 28 hours on a single charge, plus an extra 6 hours provided by the Playtime Boost feature. Actual playtime depends on the volume and the content played. The 99.02 Wh pack fully recharges in 3 hours from the mains.
Is the battery of the JBL Boombox 4 replaceable?
Yes: the 99.02 Wh lithium-ion pack (21.6 V / 4,584 mAh) can be replaced in three steps, with the spare battery sold separately. The speaker can therefore last several more seasons instead of being thrown away the day the battery no longer holds its charge.
Is the power output the same on battery and when plugged into the mains?
No. On mains power, it delivers 2 × 65 W RMS to the woofers and 2 × 40 W to the tweeters; on battery, the woofers drop to 2 × 60 W RMS, while the tweeters stay at 2 × 40 W. The difference is small, but for a party at full volume, it is best to plug it into the mains at 100–240 V.
Does the IP68 rating mean you can take it to the poolside or out in the rain?
Yes. The Boombox 4 is IP68-certified: waterproof and dustproof. Rain, splashes by the pool, beach sand or a clumsy friend are not a problem.
What exactly is in the Boombox 4 box?
The speaker, a 2 m mains power cable (the plug varies by region), a quick start guide, a safety sheet and a warranty card. The USB-C cable needed for wired audio playback is not included: bring your own if you plan to connect a computer.
Can you charge a phone from the speaker?
Yes, the Boombox 4 doubles as a power bank: its USB-C port powers an external device, drawing energy from the speaker's 99.02 Wh pack. Very handy outdoors, bearing in mind that each charge is deducted from the remaining listening hours.
What is the USB-C port on the JBL Boombox 4 for?
It allows lossless audio playback from a laptop or another source, over a cable rather than Bluetooth. The source must still play genuinely lossless content, through a compatible app or service. The same port provides the power bank function; the other connector is the mains input.
Can two Boombox 4 speakers be paired in stereo?
Yes, thanks to Auracast: two Boombox 4 speakers pair in stereo to widen the soundstage, and several Auracast-compatible JBL speakers can play the same playlist to fill a larger space with sound. The connection runs over Bluetooth 5.4, with the A2DP 1.4 and AVRCP 1.6 profiles.
What are the two Bass Boost modes for, and how do you switch from one to the other?
One press of the Bass Boost button on the top panel activates Deep Bass mode: the JBL logo lights up orange, and the two woofers and three passive radiators give their all. A double press switches to Punchy Bass, with a white logo, for tighter, more energetic bass. Without pressing, you keep the classic JBL sound signature.
Does it really go deep in the bass?
Its frequency response starts at 37 Hz and goes up to 20 kHz, driven by two 12.3 cm woofers, two 20 mm tweeters and three passive radiators (two round, one oblong). The signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 80 dB, and AI Sound Boost analyses the music in real time to limit distortion at high volume.
At 5.89 kg, is it still portable for everyday use?
It measures 50.6 × 26.3 × 21.3 cm and weighs 5.89 kg: it is a party speaker you take to the garden, the terrace or the beach, not a model that slips into a backpack. Its design has been reworked to be lighter than the previous generation, despite a fuller sound.
Are there recycled materials in this JBL speaker?
Yes. The speaker grille combines recycled fabric and post-consumer recycled plastic, and the packaging is made of FSC-certified paper printed with soy ink.
Is the speaker new and under warranty?
Yes: new and sealed in its original packaging, with its invoice and the JBL warranty card included in the box. The warranty is 1 year. Full specifications are in the JBL datasheet (PDF).
