Frequently asked questions about this product

How long does the SMC2000I-2U run on battery?
15 minutes at 50% load, i.e. 650 W, and 8 minutes at 70%, i.e. 910 W. A full recharge then takes only 3 hours.
Can a 2000 VA rack-mount UPS be quiet?
This one, yes: it is rated at less than 42 dBA, which is low for this power rating in a rack format. It can therefore stay in a shared room, provided its ventilation is left clear.
Are all the SMC2000I-2U's outlets battery-backed?
Yes: six C13 outlets and two IEC jumpers, all powered by the battery. Input is via a heavy-duty C20 inlet, with a maximum input current of 10 A protected by a circuit breaker of the same rating.
Why does 2000 VA only give 1300 W?
The power factor is 0.65: 2000 × 0.65 = 1300 W actually available. Compare this figure in watts with the combined power draw of the server, switch and storage installed in the rack.
Is the output a pure sine wave?
Yes, the output is a sine wave — rare on a line-interactive UPS, which usually delivers a signal built up in steps. That is what the power-factor-corrected power supplies of servers require.
How much rack space does the SMC2000I-2U take up?
2U high (89 mm), 480 mm wide and 470 mm deep, weighing 26.2 kg. The rack-mounting hardware is included, along with the installation guide, the USB cable and the CDs.
Over what voltage range does the AVR operate?
Between 180 and 287 V, at a frequency automatically detected as 50 or 60 Hz ±3 Hz. The transfer to battery takes 8 milliseconds typical and 10 at most.
What does the UPS display, and can the battery be replaced?
A multifunction LCD console shows the load, the battery and the runtime, with alarms on configurable delays. The battery can be replaced under the reference APCRBC133.
Is the APC Smart-UPS C SMC2000I-2U new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for 2 years. A USB port lets you trigger the automatic shutdown of your systems before the battery runs out. The datasheet covers the rest.
