Does the RackStation RS822+ have a redundant power supply?
No: it is the RS822RP+ that has the dual power supply. This model runs on a single power supply unit. If keeping services running through a power supply failure is your criterion, the RP version is the one to go for.
Are drives included with the RS822+?
No, they are purchased separately. The four bays accept 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drives, hard drives or SSDs. The NAS is supplied empty: the choice of drive capacity and type is entirely yours.
Will four bays be enough for long on the RS822+?
It scales to eight drives with an RX418 expansion unit. You can therefore double the capacity later, without replacing the NAS or rebuilding existing volumes — which is what makes the 4-bay format acceptable for a growing SME.
What transfer speeds does the Synology RS822+ reach?
2,103 MB/s sequential read and 1,074 MB/s sequential write. The gap between the two is normal: writing to a RAID-protected volume always costs more than reading. The processor is a 4-core, 2.2 GHz AMD Ryzen V1500B.
How are the four network ports of the RS822+ organised?
They are four Gigabit RJ-45 ports, which can be combined through link aggregation. You then get automatic failover if a link goes down, and load balancing across the remaining links.
Can SSD cache or 10 Gigabit networking be added to the RS822+?
Yes, one slot accepts either an M.2 NVMe SSD cache card or a 10/25 GbE network card. The cache speeds up random access, the network card bandwidth: two different bottlenecks, to be identified before choosing.
How far can the RS822+ memory be expanded?
From 2 GB to 32 GB of DDR4 ECC, as two 16 GB modules. ECC corrects on the fly the memory errors that would otherwise silently corrupt a file — a safeguard that ordinary RAM does not offer.
Can the RS822+ be made highly available?
Yes, by pairing two identical units with Synology High Availability: they form an active/passive cluster, and the second takes over if the first fails. This is the answer to the fact that this model has only one power supply.
Can the RS822+ record CCTV cameras?
Yes, up to 40 IP cameras with Surveillance Station. It then combines the roles of file server, backup target for workstations and network video recorder, in a 1U chassis for 19-inch racks.
Is the Synology RS822+ new and under warranty?
New, part number RS822PLUS, in original Synology packaging, with a 3-year warranty, the invoice serving as the warranty document. The datasheet details all the specifications.
