Can the CPE610 be used to cover an area with Wi-Fi?
No, its beam is far too narrow: 9° in azimuth and 7° in elevation. It is designed to aim at a specific antenna, not to blanket a courtyard or a car park. Those 23 dBi concentrated into a pencil beam explain the range, and in return require careful alignment between the two ends.
What real throughput can you expect from a CPE610 link?
The advertised 300 Mbps is the radio data rate obtained on a 40 MHz channel, under favourable conditions. The network port, however, is 10/100: whatever the quality of the link, traffic going in and out through the cable will not exceed 100 Mbps. That is the figure to use for sizing.
What is the difference in weatherproofing between the CPE610 and the other Pharos CPEs?
The CPE610 is rated IP65, meaning dust-tight and protected against water jets, in a housing made of PC plastic stabilised for outdoor use. Several models in the same series make do with IPX5, which only rates water resistance: on a dusty or sandy site, the difference matters.
Is the CPE610 protected against lightning?
It incorporates 6 kV lightning protection and electrostatic discharge protection of 15 kV. These values assume an installation done by the book: earthing of the mount and shielded Ethernet cable all the way to the housing, otherwise the protection does not do its job.
How far from the injector can the CPE610 be installed?
Up to 60 metres of Ethernet cable. Power is 24 V DC passive PoE at 0.5 A, carried over the same pair of wires as the data. That leaves plenty of room to run from a technical room up to a roof or a pylon, without bringing mains power up high.
Can the CPE610's transmit power be adjusted?
Yes, up to 27 dBm, in 1 dBm steps. It is a setting not to be overlooked: it lets you stay within local regulatory limits, and deliberately lower the power on a short link, where excess signal saturates the receiver at the other end instead of helping it.
Which channel widths does the CPE610 accept?
5, 10, 20 or 40 MHz, as you choose, on the 5.15-5.85 GHz band, with support for dynamic frequency selection. A narrow channel reduces throughput but gains range and resistance to noise: it is the main tuning lever when a long link struggles to stay stable.
What does the CPE610's MAXtream TDMA technology bring?
It replaces competition between devices with shared airtime: each client transmits in its own window instead of trying its luck at the same time as the others. On a station serving several points, this avoids the collapse in usable throughput seen in conventional Wi-Fi as clients multiply.
Can the CPE610 cope with a harsh climate?
It operates from -40 to 70 °C, in a housing made of stabilised PC plastic designed for permanent exposure to the sun. Combined with the IP65 rating and the electrical protections, this makes it suitable for a high mountain site as well as for a roof exposed in the height of summer.
How do you manage a fleet of CPE610 units?
With the Pharos Control software, which discovers devices, monitors their status, updates their firmware and centralises maintenance from a single workstation. Each unit also remains individually accessible through the PharOS web interface, for fine-tuning a link.
Is the CPE610 new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, the invoice serving as the warranty document. The unit is built on a 560 MHz Qualcomm processor, 64 MB of DDR2 RAM and 8 MB of flash memory — a platform common to the Pharos series, whose firmware is maintained over the long term.
