What throughput can you expect from the CPE510 depending on the channel width you choose?
300 Mbps at 40 MHz, 144.4 at 20 MHz, 72.2 at 10 MHz and 36.1 at 5 MHz. These are radio data rates: since the network port is a 10/100 port, the traffic actually carried over the cable tops out at 100 Mbps. So you choose a wide channel for speed, and a narrow channel for range and stability.
Does the CPE510's lightning protection work whatever the installation?
No: it assumes a proper installation. The 6 kV lightning protection and the 15 kV electrostatic discharge protection are only achieved with correct earthing and a shielded Ethernet cable. The unit also has its own grounding terminal, which must actually be connected.
In which modes can the CPE510 operate?
As an access point, client, repeater, AP router and WISP client router: five roles. The same unit can therefore be used at either end of a link, one configured as an access point on the network side, the other as a client at the subscriber's premises, without ordering two different models.
Does the CPE510 cover a wide enough angle to serve several clients?
Its internal antenna has a 45° azimuth beamwidth with a gain of 13 dBi, which places it halfway between a coverage station and a narrow-beam link antenna. It is therefore suited to point-to-multipoint service over a sector, whereas 23 dBi models only target a single point.
Can you restart the CPE510 without climbing onto the roof?
Yes. The PoE injector, which stays in the equipment room, has its own remote reset button: a single press is enough to restart the outdoor unit. That is precisely the point of a cable run of up to 60 metres between the injector and the CPE.
What is in the CPE510 box?
The CPE, its 24 V passive PoE injector, the pole-mounting straps, the power cord and the installation guide. The injector measures 110 × 57 × 33.5 mm and has two ports: one that sends power and data to the CPE, the other for data only, to be connected to the network.
What cable length can the CPE510 handle between the injector and the unit?
Up to 60 metres. The unit accepts a voltage of between 16 and 27 V DC, which gives it headroom against the voltage drop of a long cable. Its power consumption reaches 13 W at most, and rises slightly with the length of the cable, as the cable dissipates part of the energy it carries.
What tools are available to set up a CPE510 link?
The interface includes a spectrum analyser, an antenna alignment tool, a speed test, ping and traceroute. On top of that come permanent indicators of signal strength, noise and transmission quality, plus CPU and memory monitoring: everything you need to aim and troubleshoot without bringing any measuring equipment.
Can you broadcast several separate networks from a CPE510?
Yes, with multi-SSID and VLAN tagging — but in access point mode only. Configured as a client or as a WISP router, the unit loses this capability. It is a constraint to be aware of before designing an addressing plan that would rely on network separation at each end of the link.
Over what distance has the CPE510 been tested?
More than 2 km, in testing. Transmit power goes up to 27 dBm, adjustable in 1 dBm steps, across the 5.15-5.85 GHz band. The frequencies that can actually be used and the permitted power, however, depend on the regulations in force in the country where the device is deployed.
What is the CPE510's enclosure made of, and what is its water-resistance rating?
Outdoor-stabilised ASA plastic, rated IPX5: resistance to water jets is certified, dust protection is not. On a sandy site, a model of the same series rated IP65 offers an extra guarantee on this specific point.
How do you monitor several CPE510 units remotely?
The Pharos Control software discovers devices, monitors their status, updates their firmware and centralises maintenance from a single computer. Each unit also supports web management over HTTP or HTTPS, an SNMP v2c agent, an SSH server, a system log, dynamic DNS and ping monitoring.
Under what conditions can the CPE510 stay installed outdoors?
It withstands up to 70 °C in operation, at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, in a flat enclosure measuring 224 × 79 × 60 mm. This compact size limits wind load and lets you strap it to a small-diameter pole without any particular reinforcement.
Is the CPE510 new and under warranty?
