Are hard drives included with the Synology DS223J NAS?
No, the 2 bays are empty: you need to add 3.5" SATA drives (or 2.5" SSDs with an optional bracket), not included.
Can the DS223J's memory be upgraded?
No, the memory is 1 GB DDR4, fixed (not expandable).
Which RAID levels does the DS223J support?
Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR), Basic, JBOD, RAID 0 and RAID 1. The maximum volume size is 108 TB.
Are the drives hot-swappable?
No, this model does not support hot-swapping: the NAS must be shut down to change a drive.
How can I access my files remotely?
By setting up a private cloud: secure access via QuickConnect and Synology Drive (PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android apps) and via the common network protocols (SMB, AFP, NFS, FTP, WebDAV).
Can the DS223J be used as a video surveillance system?
Yes, with Surveillance Station: 2 free camera licences and more than 8,300 compatible IP/ONVIF cameras (additional licences are paid beyond that).
Does it protect against ransomware and accidental deletion?
Yes: the Btrfs file system (from DSM 7.2 onwards), Snapshot Replication snapshots and Hyper Backup backups let you restore your data.
How many network and USB ports does the DS223J have?
1 RJ-45 1GbE network port and 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports. Note: with a single network port, it suits home sharing or a small team.
Is the Synology DS223J NAS quiet and energy-efficient?
Yes: 92 mm fan, noise level of approximately 18.2 dB(A), and power consumption of approximately 16.3 W in access / ~4 W with the drives in hibernation.
Is there an M.2 slot for SSD cache?
No, the DS223J has no M.2 slot.
Can the NAS be synced with Google Drive or Dropbox?
Yes, via Synology Cloud Sync (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.), while keeping a local copy of your data.
Is this Synology NAS new and under warranty?
