Frequently asked questions about this product

How long does the SMC1000I-2UC run on battery?
16 minutes at 50% load, i.e. 300 W, and 10 minutes at 70%, i.e. 420 W. That is comfortable for a switch, a router or a small server: plenty of time to trigger a clean shutdown.
What does SmartConnect on the SMC1000I-2UC let you do?
Monitor the UPS remotely from a web browser: a dedicated Ethernet port connects it to the network and reports its status to an online portal, with no card to add. The USB port remains available for automatic server shutdown.
Is the output of the SMC1000I-2UC a pure sine wave?
Yes, the output is a sine wave, with harmonic distortion below 5% — which is unusual on a line-interactive unit, where a stepped approximation to a sine wave is the norm. Switchover takes 6 milliseconds at half load.
Which outlets does the SMC1000I-2UC have?
Four C13 outlets and two IEC jumpers, with a C14 input. The output voltage can be set to 220, 230 or 240 V, so it can match the existing installation.
How much rack space does the SMC1000I-2UC take up?
2U high, 40.6 cm deep and 20.5 kg. It goes at the bottom of the cabinet, and the mounting kit is included — two posts are enough to hold it.
Over what voltage range does the SMC1000I-2UC correct without using the battery?
From 180 to 287 V, and up to 170 to 300 V by adjusting the thresholds. Within this range, the regulator brings the voltage back to its normal value without switching to battery, which stays full for real power cuts.
Can the SMC1000I-2UC battery be replaced?
Yes, under the reference APCRBC124, a single cartridge being enough for the unit. Its rated service life is 4 to 6 years and a full recharge takes 3 hours.
Can the SMC1000I-2UC stay in an office?
Yes: it is rated at 42 dBA and dissipates only 46 BTU/h, which is very little for a rack unit. It therefore does not require an air-conditioned equipment room.
How do you read the status of the SMC1000I-2UC on the front panel?
On a multifunction LCD console that shows the load and the status of the UPS. It is backed up by audible alarms: one when switching to battery, and a separate one for low battery, with adjustable delays.
Is the APC Smart-UPS SMC1000I-2UC new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The box contains the rack-mount brackets, a USB cable, the installation guide and the documentation CD; surge protection reaches 459 joules. The datasheet covers the rest.
