Is a charging cable supplied with the JBL Charge 6?
No, no charging cable is included, so you will need to provide one. Charging is fast, though — 10 minutes on the charger give 150 minutes of playback — and a full charge takes 3 hours.
What playtime can you really expect from the Charge 6?
Up to 28 hours of playback on a single charge, to which the JBL Playtime Boost feature adds 4 extra hours when the battery runs low. This figure applies to music playback; a full recharge, for its part, takes 3 hours.
Can the power bank feature charge a laptop?
No. The built-in power bank is designed for a mobile device — smartphone, earbuds — and charges it while the music keeps playing, but it does not charge a laptop. Enough to get through a day outdoors without letting your phone die.
What does this speaker's IP68 rating actually withstand?
The IP68 rating was validated in the laboratory for immersion in up to 1.5 m of fresh water for 30 minutes, dust included. The speaker is also designed to keep working after a one-metre drop onto concrete.
Does the Charge 6 deliver stereo on its own?
No, it is a mono (1.0) speaker. For a true stereo soundstage, you need to pair two Charge 6 speakers via Auracast; Auracast also lets you link several compatible JBL speakers to the same playlist, to cover a larger area.
Where do the JBL Charge 6's stated 45 W come from?
From two separate drivers: a 53 × 93 mm woofer at 30 W RMS for the bass and a 20 mm tweeter at 15 W RMS for the treble, over a range of 56 Hz to 20 kHz. The AI Sound Boost algorithm analyses the music in real time to limit distortion at high volume.
Can you listen in lossless quality through the USB-C port?
Yes, wired from a computer or another audio source, on two conditions: you must have installed the JBL Portable app software update that unlocks the feature, and have compatible lossless audio content. Wirelessly, the connection remains Bluetooth 5.4 with the A2DP 1.4 and AVRCP 1.6 profiles.
Does the handle get in the way when storing the speaker?
No, the strap handle is removable: keep it on to carry the speaker in one hand, and take it off to stand the speaker on a shelf. The size remains compact, at 228.8 × 98.5 × 94 mm.
What is the JBL Portable app for with the Charge 6?
It gives access to software updates, product support and customisable audio controls to tailor the sound to the moment. It is also through the app that you install the update enabling lossless listening over USB-C, and it is available on both iOS and Android.
