Frequently asked questions about this product

How long does the 5P 1550i run on battery?
13 minutes at 50% load and 8 minutes at 70%. For a tower UPS of this power, that is comfortable: time to shut down a workstation or a small server properly.
What are the 5P's load segments for?
To reserve battery runtime for essential equipment by switching the rest off. The same function is used for remote restart and sequential server start-up — handy when the power-up order matters.
Is the output of the 5P 1550i a pure sine wave?
Yes, the output is a pure sine wave, rare on a line-interactive UPS. The voltage is held at 230 V (+6/-10%), selectable as 200, 208, 220, 230 or 240 V, over an input range of 160 to 294 V — adjustable down to 150 V.
Does the UPS measure how much the connected equipment consumes?
Yes, the 5P measures the overall energy consumption of the connected equipment and shows it on its graphical LCD screen. This lets you check that you stay below the 1100 W available, without a clamp meter.
Why does 1550 VA give only 1100 W?
The power factor is 0.7: 1550 × 0.7 ≈ 1100 W actually available. That is better than the 0.5 to 0.6 of desktop UPSs, but it is indeed this wattage figure that you need to compare with your equipment.
Can the 5P 1550i's batteries be changed without shutting down the machines?
Yes, they are hot-swappable, without interrupting power to the protected equipment. Charging is managed by ABM technology, which recharges only when necessary and therefore extends service life.
Can the USB port and the serial port be used at the same time?
No: both are present but they do not work simultaneously. The UPS also has relay contacts and a mini terminal block for remote on/off and remote power-off, as well as a slot for an optional network card.
What is in the 5P 1550i box?
A USB cable, a serial cable, two IEC-IEC cords, the quick start guide and the safety instructions. The eight outlets are C13 and the inlet is C14.
Is the Eaton 5P 1550i new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for a period of 3 years with standard exchange, batteries included. It weighs 15.6 kg and stays below 40 dBA: it can stay in an office. The datasheet covers the rest.
