Frequently asked questions about this product

Does the DS1825+ have network ports faster than Gigabit?
Yes, two 2.5 GbE ports built in, which can be aggregated, with automatic failover and load balancing. That is two and a half times the speed of a Gigabit port with no change of cabling: a Cat 5e RJ-45 cable is enough for 2.5 GbE.
Can the DS1825+ be upgraded to 10 or 25 Gigabit?
Yes, through its PCIe 3.0 slot, which accepts a 10 GbE RJ-45 card or a 10/25 GbE SFP+ and SFP28 card. The choice depends on your switch: RJ-45 is cabled in copper, while SFP requires modules.
Does the DS1825+ SSD cache take up a drive bay?
No. The two M.2 NVMe slots are separate from the eight bays: you add cache without sacrificing capacity. NVMe SSDs are ordered separately, like the drives.
Are drives included with the Synology DS1825+?
No, they are ordered separately. The NAS is supplied empty, its eight bays ready to take your drives. This is the main item in the budget: across eight bays, it far exceeds the price of the chassis.
What transfer speeds does the DS1825+ reach?
Up to 2,239 MB/s sequential read and 1,573 MB/s sequential write. The gap between the two is structural: writing to a RAID-protected volume costs more than reading. The processor is a 4-core, 2.2 GHz AMD Ryzen V1500B.
How far can the DS1825+ grow?
Up to 18 drives and 360 TB raw, with two DX525 expansion units. You start with the eight internal bays and expand later, without replacing the NAS or rebuilding the volumes in place.
Can the DS1825+ host virtual machines?
Yes, through Virtual Machine Manager, which manages virtual machines and containers. It can also provide centralised backup of the workstations, servers and VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines across your IT estate.
Will my IP camera be recognised by the DS1825+?
Surveillance Station recognises more than 8,700 camera models: compatibility is very broad, but it should be checked model by model before buying the cameras. The NAS then becomes a network video recorder in addition to its role as a file server.
How can you avoid service interruptions with the DS1825+?
By pairing two identical units with Synology High Availability: the second automatically takes over if the first fails. On the drive side, RAID 1, 5, 6 and 10 withstand the failure of one drive, which can be hot-swapped.
Is the Synology DS1825+ new and under warranty?
New, part number DS1825+, in original Synology packaging, with a 3-year warranty, the invoice serving as the warranty document. It comes with 8 GB of DDR4 ECC, expandable to 32 GB, and three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports.
