How far from the wall should the projector be placed?
Allow 1.12 m for the smallest image (40 inches) and 3.35 m for the largest (120 inches). With a throw ratio of 1.26:1, you already get 72 inches at 2 metres from the wall, which fits in a standard living room. These sizes correspond to diagonals of 1.02 to 3.05 m.
What is in the box of the AOpen QF23s?
The projector, a 1.5 m HDMI cable, an IEC C13 power cable (Euro and UK plugs), an infrared remote control and the quick start guide. One thing to plan for: the remote control comes without batteries, so have some ready for the first power-up.
Will the lamp need replacing after a few hundred hours?
No, there is no lamp to replace: the light source is a white LED rated for 30,000 hours, or about 10 years at 8 hours a day. This LED is mercury-free and energy-efficient, and its brightness stays stable over time. No warm-up time is needed at start-up.
Can you watch a film in broad daylight with this projector?
It delivers 250 ANSI lumens (equivalent to 6,500 LED lumens) with a contrast ratio of 1,000:1: it is a projector designed for a darkened room or evening viewing. During the day, plan to close the curtains. Image uniformity is rated at 60% and it reproduces 16.7 million colours.
Do you have to wait for it to cool down before unplugging and putting it away?
No. The Instant On/Off function lets you unplug the cable as soon as it is switched off, with no cool-down phase and no risk to the unit. An auto power-off function also switches it off after a period without signal, adjustable in the menu.
What connections does the QF23s accept?
One HDMI input (with HDCP), one USB Type-A port that supplies 5 V and one 3.5 mm audio jack output for headphones or a speaker: that is all of the unit's wired connectivity. The video source therefore connects via HDMI.
Can you use it as a Bluetooth speaker when you are not projecting?
Yes. Bluetooth audio lets you connect a phone, a tablet or a PC and use it as a standalone speaker. It has two 3 W speakers, for 6 W in total. A 3.5 mm headphone output remains available if you prefer a separate audio system.
Do you have to place it exactly facing the wall to get a straight image?
No. Manual keystone correction covers ±30° vertically and ±30° horizontally, complemented by 4-corner adjustment. Focus is automatic and a 0.6× to 1× digital zoom adjusts the image size without moving the unit.
Is it noisy, and how much power does it use?
It runs at 35 dBA in standard mode and consumes 60 W in operation and less than 0.5 W in standby. These figures apply to standard mode, the one that delivers the 250 ANSI lumens and the 30,000-hour lifespan.
Is it really portable enough for everyday use?
Yes: 1.23 kg for 130 × 155 × 170 mm, with a built-in 2-in-1 carrying handle. It runs on mains power, and its cable is supplied with Euro and UK plugs. Its instant start-up lets you project as soon as you arrive, without waiting for it to warm up.
Does it accept a 4K input source?
Yes. The input accepts signals up to 4K (3840 × 2160), while the image is projected at the unit's native resolution, Full HD 1920 × 1080. The native aspect ratio is 16:9, and 4:3 is also supported.
Is the AOpen QF23s projector new and under warranty?
Yes: the unit is new and sealed in its original packaging, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document for the 2-year warranty (manufacturer carry-in service, BringIn). The reference to keep is MR.JXC11.005. All the detailed measurements are in the AOpen datasheet (PDF).
