Which cables and accessories come with the X1328?
Everything you need to project straight out of the box: a 1.8 m HDMI cable, a 1.8 m VGA cable, the power cord with a European plug, the infrared remote control, the lens cap and the quick start guide. The ceiling mount, however, remains an optional accessory, ordered separately.
How far away should it be installed to get a large image?
The throw ratio is 1.54 to 1.72:1, i.e. a throw distance of 1.5 to 1.7 times the image width. The usable range is 1 to 10 m, for a diagonal of up to 7.62 m (300 inches), with a 1.1x zoom to fine-tune the framing. For an image 2 m wide, allow a throw distance of 3.1 to 3.4 m.
How long does the lamp last, and does it depend on the mode chosen?
Very much so: the 240 W UHP lamp lasts 5,000 hours in standard mode, 10,000 hours in eco mode and up to 15,000 hours in ExtremeEco mode. Eco mode also brings power consumption down from 275 W to 205 W. In standby, it drops below 0.5 W.
Can it be ceiling-mounted without struggling with an upside-down image?
Yes: a gravity sensor detects ceiling mounting and flips the image 180° automatically, without going through the menus. All four modes — front, rear, ceiling front and ceiling rear — are supported; the Acer universal ceiling mount is an optional accessory, not supplied.
Can the projector connect to Wi-Fi or to a network?
No: neither Wi-Fi nor an Ethernet port. Sources connect via HDMI or VGA, and an RS-232 port is provided to control it from a room control system.
Can you play a video from a USB flash drive plugged into the projector?
No: the USB Type-A port is a 5 V power output, not a media player. It is used to power a streaming stick or an HDMI dongle, which then delivers the content through the HDMI input. A D-Sub loop-through output, on the other hand, is provided to send the image to a monitoring screen.
Do you have to straighten the image manually if the projector is poorly positioned?
No: vertical keystone correction is automatic, and the projector compensates for the distortion on its own when it is not perfectly perpendicular to the screen. The Wall Color Compensation function also corrects colours for 5 wall colours, which is useful when projecting onto a board or a coloured paint finish.
Is it bright enough for a well-lit meeting room?
Yes: 5,000 ANSI lumens in standard mode, still 4,000 in eco mode, with a contrast ratio of 20,000:1 and 80% uniformity. LumiSense technology measures the ambient light and automatically adjusts brightness and colour saturation. The image is produced by a 0.65-inch DLP DarkChip 3 chip with 1.07 billion colours.
Is it noisy during a presentation?
27 dBA in eco mode, a level that stays discreet in a meeting room. This mode combines several benefits: less noise, 205 W instead of 275 W, and a lamp life that rises from 5,000 to 10,000 hours. Auto Shutdown also switches the projector off after a period without a signal, which saves lamp hours.
Is the built-in speaker enough for a meeting room?
It is a single 3 W speaker: fine for commentary in a small office, too weak for a real meeting room. A 3.5 mm audio output lets you route the sound to a PA system or powered speakers. A 3.5 mm audio input is also provided to bring in the sound from the source.
Can this model project 3D?
Yes: it is DLP 3D Ready and HDMI 3D compatible to the 1.4a standard, so it can be fed directly by a 3D Blu-ray player, a set-top box or a console, without a PC. You will, however, need Acer shutter 3D glasses, which are not among the supplied accessories.
Can it switch on automatically and be protected against theft?
Yes to both. AC Power On starts it as soon as power is applied and HDMI Power On as soon as a signal arrives; Auto Shutdown switches it off after a period without a signal. The PIN Security function locks it with a code, which can only be reset by Acer service after proof of ownership.
Is the Acer X1328 projector new, and how long is the warranty?
It is new, genuine and sealed in its original packaging, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document, for a period of 2 years. It measures 313 × 240 × 114 mm, so it is easy to move from one room to another. Full details in the datasheet (PDF).
