How far from the wall should the Epson EB-W49 be placed?
Between 1.30 and 1.56 times the width of the desired image: for an image two metres wide, allow 2.60 m to 3.10 m of throw distance. The 1.2× optical zoom fine-tunes within this range without moving the projector, a typical distance in a classroom.
What should you do when the EB-W49's lamp reaches the end of its life?
It can be replaced, under the reference ELPLP97. Its stated lifespan is 8,000 hours in normal mode and 17,000 hours in eco mode: the first figure is the one to go by for use at full brightness, the second assumes deliberately reduced brightness.
Is Wi-Fi built in, or do you need an accessory to project wirelessly?
It is optional: wireless projection requires the ELPAP11 adapter (5 GHz), purchased in addition. Without it, the connection to the company network is made through the built-in RJ45 Ethernet port, which already allows network projection and remote monitoring.
Do you need to buy a separate cable to connect a laptop?
No: a 1.80 m HDMI cable comes with the unit, along with the power cable, the remote control and its batteries, the setup guide and the manual on CD-ROM. Two HDMI inputs are available, so you can keep a desktop PC connected and plug a laptop into the second one.
Does the EB-W49 correct a skewed image in both directions?
Vertical correction is automatic over ± 30°, while horizontal correction remains manual, also over ± 30°. In other words, up-down tilt is corrected on its own, but a sideways offset from the centre of the wall requires an adjustment in the menu, complemented if needed by four-corner adjustment.
Is the EB-W49's speaker enough for a classroom?
It delivers 5 W, enough to accompany a video in a small room or an office. For a whole class or a noisy room, it is better to plan a sound system: a mini-jack audio output is provided, and the ELPSP02 active speakers are among the accessories intended for this model.
Is this projector noisy, and does it use a lot of power?
37 dB(A) in normal mode and 28 dB(A) in eco mode, with power consumption of 286 W in normal use, 180 W in eco mode and 0.3 W in standby. Eco mode therefore helps on both counts, at the cost of brightness reduced from 3,800 to 2,600 lumens.
Is the EB-W49's WXGA resolution good enough for text?
1280 × 800 pixels in 16:10 format: titles, diagrams and presentation text stay sharp, even on an image several metres wide. For a very dense spreadsheet or a technical drawing projected in small print, a higher resolution will be more comfortable.
Does the EB-W49 remain legible in a well-lit room?
Yes: 3,800 lumens of white and colour brightness alike, with a contrast ratio of 16,000:1. Equal figures for these two measurements are specific to 3LCD technology: colours do not wash out when daylight comes into the room, unlike with lower colour brightness.
Can the EB-W49 be mounted on a meeting room ceiling?
Yes: it is designed for ceiling as well as table use, with the ELPMB23 mount and, if the ceiling height requires it, the 450 or 700 mm ELPFP13 and ELPFP14 extension poles. At 2.7 kg and 302 × 249 × 87 mm, mounting remains light work.
Can you display two sources side by side with the EB-W49?
Yes, the split-screen function divides the image between two sources. Handy for comparing a document and a video, or for keeping teaching material on screen during a demonstration. The projector can also be controlled remotely over the network, via PJLink, AMX, Crestron, Control4 or Extron.
Is the EB-W49 projector new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. Quote the reference V11H983040 for any part or accessory request: the ELPLP97 lamp is shared by several models in the range, and the product reference removes any ambiguity.
