How are the Acton III's 60 W distributed?
Across three dedicated Class D amplifiers: 30 W for the woofer and 2 × 15 W for the tweeters. The tweeters face outwards and are guided by redesigned waveguides, which widens the soundstage across the whole room instead of concentrating it in front of the speaker.
Can the Acton III be connected to a TV?
Through the 3.5 mm jack input. Worth knowing before you buy: the Acton III has no RCA input, unlike the other models in the range, and no HDMI port — that is reserved for the Woburn III, the only one designed for the TV.
Can two be paired for true stereo?
No: the Acton III works on its own and cannot be used as a pair or in a multi-speaker group. To cover a larger room, look to a higher model in the range: the three Home III models differ precisely in the size of room they cover.
Is the Marshall app required?
No: the speaker works without it, and bass/treble equalisation is adjusted on the top panel. The app adds advanced settings, placement compensation and over-the-air (OTA) software updates, which allow the speaker to receive new Bluetooth features over time.
What can you control without touching your phone?
Almost everything, from the top panel: source, volume, bass, treble, play/pause, skip back and forward, plus the power switch and the Bluetooth pairing button. Enough to change track or rebalance the sound without taking the phone out of your pocket.
Is the brown covering genuine leather?
No, it is faux leather: only leather-look materials are used, 100% vegan. The design is also PVC-free and includes 70% recycled plastic, all finished with a gold woven grille and brass control knobs.
Does the sound change if I place it against a wall or on a shelf?
That is catered for: placement compensation, adjustable in the Marshall app, lets you place it anywhere in the home. The bass and treble knobs on the top panel fine-tune the sound further to suit the room.
How much space does it actually take up on a piece of furniture?
260 × 170 × 150 mm: it sits on a shelf or a console table without taking up its full depth. Within the Home III range, it is precisely the size and the amplifier/driver configuration that set the Acton apart from the Stanmore and the Woburn, and therefore the room size each one can fill.
How do you pair the speaker with a new phone?
Hold down the Bluetooth button until its light flashes, then select the speaker in the phone's Bluetooth list. The connection uses Bluetooth 5.2 and the speaker is ready to use straight out of the box, with no complicated setup.
