A blank page with eight cores
This 15.6-inch laptop ships with no operating system: it boots into FreeDOS and waits for yours. Underneath sit an eight-core Ryzen 7, a free memory slot and a wired network port — enough to set one up, then roll the same image out across a fleet.

Three moves and it is working
The machine comes out of the box bare. What goes into it is your call: the system first, more memory next if the workload asks for it, then the network — the RJ-45 port keeps installation day off the Wi-Fi.
- 1Install the system: Windows bought separately, or a Linux distribution. Nothing has to be uninstalled first.
- 2Add a memory stick: 8 GB are soldered and the DDR4 SO-DIMM slot stays free. With another 8 GB, memory reaches 16 GB and runs dual-channel.
- 3Plug in the network: the 100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 port is built in, with no adapter and no dock.
A keyboard that takes a spilt coffee
Six rows, a real number pad and a spill-resistant design: small amounts of liquid drain away instead of reaching the board. Key travel is 1.3 mm, firm enough for long typing, and a service hot key brings up the machine's details at one press. The Mylar touchpad measures 62 × 104 mm and follows the Precision TouchPad standard.
On the left, everything that ties it to the desk
The round power connector, one 5 Gbps USB-A port, the HDMI 1.4b output, the USB-C port that carries DisplayPort 1.2 video and charges the laptop at 45 to 65 W, then the headphone-microphone jack. Combining HDMI and USB-C drives two external screens on top of the built-in panel.
On the right, the network and the lock
The RJ-45 port is full size despite the 19.9 mm of thickness, with no adapter to carry; a second USB-A port in USB 2.0 takes the mouse or a licence key, and the Kensington Nano slot, 2.5 × 6 mm, ties the laptop to the desk when it stays there.
Security before the first boot
The TPM 2.0 chip is built into the firmware: the encryption keys of the system you install are held by the hardware, not by software added afterwards. The webcam has a privacy shutter that covers the lens. The chassis itself has passed the MIL-STD-810H tests.

Who is this V15 G4 ABP (83CR005RFE) for?
For businesses and resellers who install the operating system and their software themselves: the machine arrives without Windows. Its 8-core Ryzen 7, wired network port and keyboard with numeric keypad make it a mobile office workstation, not a gaming machine.
Is Windows installed on this computer?
No. Lenovo ships it without an operating system: it boots into FreeDOS and waits for you to install your own, Windows bought separately or a Linux distribution. That is what explains a lower price than the same hardware with Windows.
Can the memory be upgraded?
Yes, and that is one of its strengths: 8 GB is soldered to the motherboard, but a DDR4 SO-DIMM slot is free. By adding an 8 GB module, the machine goes to 16 GB and runs in dual-channel mode.
How good is its screen?
It is a 15.6-inch Full HD TN panel, anti-glare, at 250 nits with a 500:1 contrast ratio, covering 45% of the NTSC colour space at 60 Hz. It is suitable for documents and browsing, but its viewing angles remain narrow: the image fades when viewed from the side.

How many external displays can you connect?
Two, in addition to the built-in panel: one via the HDMI 1.4b port, the other via USB-C, which carries the DisplayPort 1.2 signal. The same USB-C port is also used to charge the machine, between 45 and 65 watts.
Can the keyboard survive a spilled glass?
Lenovo describes it as spill-resistant: small amounts of liquid drain away without reaching the motherboard. It is not backlit on this model, has six rows with a numeric keypad and 1.3 mm of key travel.
How do you secure the machine at the office?
A 2.5 × 6 mm Kensington Nano slot takes an anti-theft cable, the webcam has a mechanical shutter and the TPM 2.0 chip built into the firmware encrypts the system keys. There is no fingerprint reader on this model.
