Frequently asked questions about this product

Are drives included with the RS2423RP+II?
No, no drives are included: the 12 bays take 3.5-inch SATA hard drives or 2.5-inch SATA SSDs. Synology lists its HAT3300 and HAT5300 series drives and its SAT5200 SSDs as compatible. With 20 TB drives, raw capacity reaches 240 TB before any expansion.
What is the difference between the RS2423RP+II and the RS2423+?
The power supply: the RS2423RP+II has two redundant, hot-swappable units, which keep the service running if one of the power sources fails. The Ryzen V1780B processor, 12 bays, 10 GbE port and expansion to 24 drives are common to both models, which Synology presents together.
Does the RS2423RP+II have M.2 slots for SSD cache?
Not internally: an NVMe SSD cache is added with a card in its PCIe 3.0 x8 slot, the M2D20 for two M.2 SSDs, or the E10M20-T1, which adds a 10 GbE port. The same slot can also take a 25 GbE E25G30-F2 card or a 10 GbE card, if the built-in 10 GbE port is no longer enough.
How far can the RS2423RP+II memory be expanded?
Up to 32 GB: it comes with an 8 GB DDR4 ECC UDIMM module and has 2 slots, each taking a 16 GB module (D4EU02-8G or D4EU02-16G from Synology). Memory matters for large volumes: above 108 TB, a volume requires 32 GB installed, up to 200 TB.
How many computers can the RS2423RP+II back up?
Synology rates it for backing up 300 computers and servers, in addition to 75 IP cameras under Surveillance Station or file sync between sites. It supports up to 510 concurrent SMB connections, 930 Synology Drive users and 1,024 local accounts.
Which rail kit does the RS2423RP+II need?
The Synology RKS-02 sliding rail kit, sold separately, for a 4-post 19-inch rack. The RS2423RP+II takes up 2U for 578 mm of depth and weighs 11.9 kg without drives. Sliding rails let you pull the server out of the rack to replace a power supply or a fan.
Is the RS2423RP+II noisy?
Yes, it is intended for a server room or technical cabinet: its three 60 mm fans reach 56.2 dB(A) in operation, and Synology designed them to be easily replaceable. It draws 114.86 W in access and 42.33 W when the drives are in hibernation, powered by two redundant 550 W units.
