A real microphone,

The EM-93M replaces the built-in microphone of a camera, a camcorder or a smartphone with a cardioid condenser capsule housed in a 79 × 23 mm body. It comes with its shock mount, two windscreens and a cable for each family of devices.

The sound of the person filmed, not of the room

The condenser capsule is cardioid: it first picks up what is in front of it, along the axis of the lens. That is what a vlog, a street interview or a commentary on a shoot needs. Mackie builds it with professional-grade components, for clearer, more defined sound: 35 Hz to 20 kHz response, -42 dB sensitivity, 680 ohm output impedance.

A black plug, a green plug

The microphone has a 3.5 mm mini-jack socket at the back. The TRS cable with the black plug goes to the mic input of a DSLR camera, a camcorder or a recorder; the TRRS cable with the green plug connects to a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop. A label on each cable shows its use, and the microphone works as soon as it is plugged in.

A shock mount against hand noise

The supplied shoe adapter includes a shock mount. The microphone snaps into it without forcing, then the assembly is hand-tightened onto the device's accessory shoe. The shock mount reduces handling noise.

Foam indoors, fur outdoors

The foam windscreen is for indoor and everyday use. To film outside, the furry windscreen slides over the capsule and greatly reduces wind noise.

Which devices can the EM-93M be connected to?

A camera, a camcorder, a recorder or a smartphone. Two cables are included: the TRS cable with a black plug goes to the mic input of a camera, a camcorder or a recorder; the TRRS cable with a green plug goes to a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop. The other end plugs into the 3.5 mm socket on the microphone.

How is the microphone mounted on a camera?

With the supplied shoe adapter, which includes a shock mount. First snap the microphone into the shock mount without forcing it, then hand-tighten the adapter onto the camera's accessory shoe. If it does not fit at first, loosen the ring before sliding it on. The shock mount reduces handling noise.

Which windscreen should be used outdoors?

The furry windscreen. Slid over the microphone, it greatly reduces wind noise when filming outside, during a report or a walking vlog. The more discreet foam windscreen is for indoor and everyday use. Both are supplied with the microphone and fit in a few seconds.
