The PRA218A is a supercardioid dynamic microphone designed for kick drum. Superlux also intends it for other bass instruments played at high level.

Headroom in front of the head

Its response extends from 20 Hz to 12.5 kHz and it withstands 134 dB SPL. A high-energy neodymium magnet raises its output level: -53 dBV/Pa sensitivity, 500 ohm impedance, XLR connector. A passive microphone, it needs no power at all.

The clip is part of the microphone

A knob clip is fixed to the body: the microphone screws directly onto a stand or a boom, with no extra part. The YA2 thread adapter and a pouch are supplied; the PRA218A measures 43 mm in diameter and 120 mm long.

No cable is supplied: plan for a female XLR to male XLR cable.

Can the PRA218A be used on instruments other than kick drum?
Yes: Superlux also intends it for other bass instruments played at high level. Its response goes down to 20 Hz and it handles 134 dB SPL, which leaves headroom in front of a powerful source.
How is the PRA218A mounted?
A knob clip is part of the microphone body: it screws directly onto a stand or a boom, with no clip to add. The supplied YA2 thread adapter lets you switch between stand threads (5/8" and 3/8").
Does the PRA218A need phantom power?
No. It is a passive dynamic microphone, fitted with a neodymium magnet for a high output level. It plugs over XLR into a mixer or an audio interface, with no battery and no phantom power.
What are the electrical specifications of the PRA218A?
Sensitivity of -53 dBV/Pa (2.2 mV), output impedance of 500 ohms for a minimum load of 500 ohms, male XLR connector. The microphone measures 43 mm in diameter and 120 mm long, and weighs 210 g.
