Frequently asked questions about this product

Are all the SMX3000HV's outlets battery-backed?
Yes, all twelve: eight C13 outlets, two heavy-duty C19 outlets and two IEC jumpers, all powered by the battery. No output is limited to surge protection alone.
How can a line-interactive UPS offer 2700 W from 3000 VA?
Its power factor of 0.9 turns almost all of the apparent power into watts. A desktop UPS at 0.54 would offer only 1620 W: the usable headroom is in a different league.
Can the SMX3000HV be plugged into a wall socket?
Yes: the input accepts a C20, Schuko or British connection, with a 1.83 m cord. No hardwiring for a 3000 VA unit — which is rarer than you might think.
How long does the SMX3000HV take to switch to battery?
6 milliseconds typical, 10 at most. The output is a sine wave, which is what the power-factor-corrected power supplies of servers require.
Can the SMX3000HV be installed in a rack or as a tower?
Both: a convertible chassis measuring 178 × 483 × 432 mm and weighing 38.6 kg, with the rack-mount brackets included in the box.
What voltage range does the SMX3000HV accept?
140 to 280 V, at a frequency automatically detected as 50 or 60 Hz ±3 Hz. This wide range lets it stay on mains power where a stricter UPS would switch to battery.
How do you monitor the SMX3000HV?
Through a SmartSlot for an optional network card, and through the supplied RS-232 cable. The box also contains a USB cable, the CDs and the manual.
Is the APC Smart-UPS X SMX3000HV new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. Its battery is a sealed, maintenance-free lead-acid battery with suspended electrolyte, recharged in 3 hours, and a multifunction LCD console on the front panel shows the status.
