Frequently asked questions about this product

How long does the SMC3000RMI2U run on battery?
14 minutes at 50% load, i.e. 1050 W, and 8 minutes at 70%, i.e. 1470 W. A full recharge then takes only 3 hours.
Can a 3000 VA rack-mount UPS be quiet?
This one, yes: it is rated at less than 42 dBA, which is low for this power rating in a rack format. It can stay in a shared room, provided its ventilation is left clear.
Are all the SMC3000RMI2U's outlets battery-backed?
Yes: eight C13 outlets, one heavy-duty C19 outlet and two IEC jumpers, all powered by the battery. Input is via a heavy-duty C20 inlet.
Why does 3000 VA only give 2100 W?
The power factor is 0.7: 3000 × 0.7 = 2100 W actually available. Compare this figure in watts with the combined power draw of your servers and network equipment, never the VA in the product name.
What surge protection does the SMC3000RMI2U provide?
A 300-joule surge suppressor, backed up by full-time multi-pole noise filtering with zero clamping response time, compliant with the UL 1449 standard. This filtering also deals with electrical noise, not just spikes.
How much rack space does the SMC3000RMI2U take up?
2U high (89 mm), 480 mm wide and 670 mm deep, weighing 41 kg. This depth rules out shallow rack cabinets, and the weight means it takes two people to install it, at the bottom of the rack.
Over what voltage range does the regulator operate?
An input range adjustable from 170 to 300 V, at an accepted frequency of 47 to 63 Hz. The transfer to battery takes 8 milliseconds typical, 10 at most.
Can the battery be replaced, and what is in the box?
The battery can be replaced under the reference APCRBC151. The box contains the rack-mounting hardware, a USB cable, the installation guide and the CDs — nothing extra to order to install it.
Is the APC Smart-UPS C SMC3000RMI2U new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for 2 years. It delivers a pure sine wave, is controlled via its USB port and shows its status on a multifunction LCD console. The datasheet covers the rest.
