Frequently asked questions about this product

How long does the SMC1500I-2UC run on battery?
23 minutes at 50% load, i.e. 500 W, and 12 minutes at 70%, i.e. 700 W. That is very comfortable for a rack-mount UPS of this size, and a full recharge takes only 3 hours.
What does this model's SmartConnect feature do?
It lets you monitor the UPS remotely from a web browser, via a cloud connection: status, alerts and reports, with no monitoring server to install. That is what the final “C” in the reference stands for.
Which outlets does the SMC1500I-2UC have?
Four C13 outlets and two IEC jumpers, with one C14 inlet. You will need IEC cords for your machines: only a USB cable comes with the unit, along with the rack-mounting hardware and the guide.
Is the output a pure sine wave?
Yes, the output is a sine wave — rare on a line-interactive UPS. Switching to battery takes 6 milliseconds at half load, 10 maximum.
Why does 1500 VA only give 900 W?
The power factor is 0.6: 900 W actually available. Compare this wattage with the combined consumption of the server, router and switch installed in the rack — never the VA in the product name.
How much rack space does the SMC1500I-2UC take up?
2U high (86 mm), 432 mm wide and 477 mm deep, weighing 28.6 kg. The rack-mounting hardware is included; at this weight, installation takes two people.
Is the SMC1500I-2UC noisy in a rack?
It is rated at 46 dBA. That is audible in a quiet room but unobtrusive in an already ventilated rack: it belongs in an equipment room rather than next to a workstation.
Is the APC Smart-UPS SMC1500I-2UC new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for a period of 2 years. Its input frequency is detected automatically as 50 or 60 Hz ±3 Hz, and the output is synchronised with the mains. The datasheet covers the rest.
