Frequently asked questions about this product
What battery life is quoted for the Sony WH-CH720N with noise cancelling on?
35 hours of music with noise cancelling on, 50 hours without it; for calls, 35 hours with it and 40 without. The 35-hour figure is the one to remember: it reflects how ANC headphones are actually used. A full recharge takes about 3 h 30 min, via USB.
What can you do when the WH-CH720N battery runs flat?
Switch to wired: a 1.2 m jack cable comes with the headphones, and passive operation lets you listen with them switched off. So you can keep listening on a computer, console or player while they recharge.
Can you hear what is going on around you without taking the headphones off?
Yes, an ambient sound mode lets outside sounds back in: an announcement, a colleague, the traffic. You keep the headphones on to answer someone, then switch back to noise cancelling with a single control.
Do calls come through clearly outdoors with these headphones?
Two features take care of that: a beamforming microphone, which targets your voice rather than the street, and a wind noise reduction structure around the mic capsule. That is what separates a call you can hold while walking from one where the other person hears nothing but wind.
Can the WH-CH720N connect to two devices at the same time?
Yes, multipoint keeps your computer and phone paired together. When a call comes in, the headphones recognise which device is ringing and switch to it automatically. The connection uses Bluetooth 5.2, with a range of about 10 m.
Is the WH-CH720N light enough to wear all day?
It weighs about 192 g, which is light for closed-back, noise-cancelling over-ear headphones. The ear cushions surround the ear instead of pressing on it: the pressure is spread around the outer ear rather than on the cartilage.
What is in the box with the Sony WH-CH720N headphones?
The headphones, a USB cable for charging and a 1.2 m jack connection cable with a gold-plated angled mini plug. Everything you need to charge them and listen wired straight out of the box, with no extra accessory to buy.
What does DSEE technology bring to these headphones?
It restores the high-frequency sounds and delicate fade-outs that file and streaming compression strips away. Combined with the V1 processor, it aims for a sound close to the original recording, especially on vocals and cymbals.
Are the Sony WH-CH720N headphones new and under warranty?
Yes, new and genuine, with a 1-year warranty, the invoice serving as the warranty document. Keep it: it is all you need for any workshop repair.
Two battery regimes: 10 h from the earbuds alone and 40 h in total with the case, noise cancelling on; 12 h and 48 h with it off. Ambient Aware and TalkThru let outside sounds back in.
•Adaptive active noise cancelling
•Up to 10 h of listening from the earbuds alone, noise cancelling on
More than 30 h of listening in total with the case, 7 h of that for the earbuds alone, and the case also recharges wirelessly. Simultaneous connection to two devices, and playback stops as soon as you take an earbud out.
•7 h of listening per charge, more than 30 h in total with the case
The silicone ear hook with memory wire bends to any ear shape and stays put during exercise. 10.5 g per earbud, touch controls and Ambient Aware mode to stay aware of the road.
Three microphones per ear and wind-cutting processing keep the voice intelligible mid-run. Up to 12 h of listening from the earbuds with noise cancelling off, and 48 h in total with the case.
Swapping cables takes a second: 3 m straight in the studio, coiled in the field. The 40 mm drivers with neodymium magnets reach up to 24 kHz, and the ear cups swivel 90° for one-ear monitoring.
More than 100 hours of wireless battery life, and recharging that does without a cable: just set it on a base. Foldable for long journeys, with an M button to customise from the app.
•More than 100 h of wireless battery life
•Wireless recharging on a base, or via the included USB-C cable
The JBL Headphones app tunes the equaliser to your taste, and Voice Aware lets you hear your own voice during a call. Connected to two devices at once, 220 g on the head, 76 hours of stated listening.
The red light comes on as soon as you are on a call: your colleagues know not to interrupt you. Unidirectional boom microphone that folds up when not in use, and a 3.5 mm jack to connect a phone or tablet too.
One earcup swivels 90° to listen with a single ear and keep the other on the booth, the DJ's gesture. Response reaches 22 kHz and isolation stays tight: the same model moves from mixing to tracking to the booth.
Two beamforming microphones on an extended boom filter out office noise during calls. Up to 20 h of listening or 16 h of talk time, and 5 minutes of charging gives back 1 h of call time.
