What is the touchscreen on the JBL Live Flex 3 case for?

To control everything without opening an app: volume, EQ, track navigation, taking calls, reading messages, and even a wallpaper from your own photos. The 3.68 cm screen works whatever device is connected — computer, TV, phone or tablet.

How many hours do the Live Flex 3 last with noise cancelling on?

Up to 7 hours with the earbuds alone, noise cancelling on, compared with 10 hours with it off. The 50 hours often highlighted are the total with the case, noise cancelling off: 7 hours is the figure to remember for everyday use.

What if I head out with flat earbuds?

10 minutes of USB-C charging gives 4 hours of listening. A full charge takes 2 hours. The case holds a 690 mAh reserve compared with 50 mAh per earbud, and itself charges wirelessly if you have an inductive charging pad.

How does the noise cancelling adapt to my ear?

Four sensing microphones analyse the environment in real time and adjust the level automatically. The app adds an audio compensation filter that tailors the cancelling to the shape of your ear canal — no two ears attenuate noise in the same way.

Can you adjust the volume of the other person’s voice?

Yes, and that is unusual: beyond the voice EQ that shapes what the people you talk to hear, a voice level optimiser adjusts the volume of their voice in your earbuds. Useful when you take one call after another and the level varies twofold.

How do calls hold up outdoors in windy weather?

Six beamforming microphones focus pickup on your voice and reduce wind as well as interference. This processing is what determines how intelligible a call is when taken on a pavement rather than in a closed office.

Can you find the Live Flex 3 if you lose them?

Yes, with Google Finder, which relies on a network of more than three million Android devices to help locate them. Google Audio Switch also handles automatic switching from one Android device to another.

Can you connect them to two devices at the same time?

Yes, multipoint connection handles two Bluetooth devices simultaneously: a video playing on your tablet no longer stops you from taking a call coming in on your phone. The earbuds use Bluetooth 5.3, while the case communicates over Bluetooth 5.1.

Can you wear them at the beach or cycling in the rain?

They are rated IP54: protected against dust and against water splashes from all directions. Sweat, sea spray and rain are therefore not a problem. It does not mean they are waterproof for immersion, but it covers outdoor outings.

How good are the drivers in the Live Flex 3?

12 mm dynamic speakers, generous for this format, with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz that earns the model its high-resolution label. Expect 13 ohms of impedance, 103 dB of sensitivity at 1 kHz and a maximum sound pressure of 95 dB.

Are the earbuds heavy to wear for long periods?

4.5 g per earbud, i.e. 9 g for the pair, in a stem-style design. The case weighs 63.7 g and has a loop for a lanyard, which saves you from putting it down somewhere and leaving it behind.

What is in the box of the Live Flex 3?

The two earbuds, the charging case, a USB Type-C charging cable, a warranty and warnings booklet and a quick start guide. As the cable is included, you need nothing else for the first charge.

How long do they last on calls?

Up to 5 hours, noise cancelling off. The difference compared with music playback comes from the work of the microphones and voice processing, which use extra power. For a day spent entirely on calls, plan a trip back to the case around midday.
