Your whole workstation in 1.34 kg

A 14-inch laptop in aluminium top and bottom, with ports spread across both sides and security built into the hardware rather than into software. It ships without an operating system: a machine to set up for your own use, not one to clear of things you never chose.

Every port in its place, on both sides

On the left, everything that links the laptop to the desk: the HDMI 2.1 output and the two Thunderbolt 4 ports, which charge the machine and carry the picture. Combined, they drive up to three external displays on top of the built-in panel. The USB-A port marked with a battery stays powered when the laptop is off, to charge a phone. On the right: the second USB-A, the Gigabit network socket and the security lock slot.

A keyboard that shrugs off splashes

Six rows of backlit keys and a Copilot key, on a keyboard designed to resist spills. Key travel reaches 1.5 mm, 1.35 mm on the function row and on the G, H and B keys. In the centre, the TrackPoint moves the pointer without leaving the home row; under Windows, a double tap opens its quick menu. Just below, a Mylar-surfaced 60 × 115 mm touchpad keeps three real buttons.

Security built into the hardware

The TPM 2.0 is a dedicated chip, FIPS 140-3 certified, not a processor function. The BIOS repairs itself if it is tampered with. The fingerprint reader, built into the power button, matches the print inside the sensor itself (match-on-chip). The infrared camera handles Windows Hello facial recognition once Windows is installed, and a shutter covers the lens.

Aluminium on top and underneath

On this version, the lid and the bottom cover are aluminium, each containing 50% recycled aluminium; the range also exists with a plastic bottom. The laptop has passed MIL-STD-810H military tests, weighs 1.34 kg and is 19.7 mm at its thickest. The screen fills 90% of the front.

Frequently asked questions about this product

Is Windows installed on the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 (21Y6002KFE)?
No. It runs FreeDOS, without Windows: no operating system is installed, and you need to install one before using it day to day. A Windows 11 Home or Pro licence can be added to your order from the accessories on this product page. The processor's Copilot+ features only become available once Windows 11 is installed.
Can the RAM in this ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 be upgraded?
Yes. The 16 GB of DDR5-5600 occupies a single SO-DIMM module and the second slot is free. The machine accepts up to 64 GB in total, in dual-channel mode when both slots are filled. None of the memory is soldered to the motherboard: each of the two modules can be added or replaced later, as your needs evolve.
Can a second SSD be added to the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8?
Yes. The 512 GB SSD supplied occupies the M.2 2242 slot, and a second M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot remains free. Each accepts an NVMe SSD of up to 1 TB, giving two drives and 2 TB at most. The original SSD supports Opal 2.0 hardware encryption, useful for protecting data if the machine is lost or stolen.
Is the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 screen a touchscreen?
No. It is a 14-inch WUXGA IPS panel, 1920 × 1200 pixels in 16:10 format, with an anti-glare treatment. It delivers 400 nits at 60 Hz, enough to stay readable in a very bright office. Its 45% NTSC coverage gives accurate enough colours for office work and the web, but too limited for demanding photo editing.
Is the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 a Copilot+ PC?
Yes. Its Intel Core Ultra 5 325 includes an artificial intelligence unit (NPU) of up to 47 TOPS, which places it among Copilot+ PCs, and its keyboard has a Copilot key. As it ships with FreeDOS, it only benefits from these features once Windows 11 is installed: the chip is there, but it is the operating system that uses them.
What video outputs does the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 offer?
Three outputs, and up to three external monitors in addition to the built-in screen. The HDMI 2.1 port displays up to 4K at 60 Hz, and the two Thunderbolt 4 ports carry a DisplayPort 2.1 signal up to 8K at 60 Hz to a USB-C monitor or a docking station. These same ports are used for charging: a single cable is all it takes to get your whole workstation back.
Does the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 charge via USB-C?
Yes. It comes with a 65 W USB-C charger, and its two Thunderbolt 4 ports accept USB Power Delivery charging from 15 to 65 W. Its 48 Wh battery supports Rapid Charge Pro: up to 50% in 30 minutes, with the computer off or in sleep mode. A USB-A port also stays powered when the machine is off, to charge a phone.
What is in the box of the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8?
The computer, its 65 W USB-C AC adapter and a Lenovo Casual Toploader laptop bag designed for laptops up to 15.6 inches, where this 14-inch model fits with room to spare. No mouse and no software are supplied: Windows and Microsoft Office are sold separately, as accessories on this product page.
