The aluminium chassis of the E14 Gen 8 series, with the Core Ultra 7 355 and its 49 TOPS AI engine. Ports on both sides, security built into the hardware, 1.34 kg on your shoulder. It arrives without an operating system: it is waiting for yours.
Six views to walk around it
The display, the keyboard, both sides and the underside, in the order you discover the machine. Ports are split between the two flanks: video and charging on the left, wired network and security lock on the right.

A firm keystroke, safe from splashes
Six rows of backlit keys, a Copilot key, and 1.5 mm of travel — 1.35 mm on the function row and on the G, H and B keys. The keyboard is designed to resist spills. The TrackPoint keeps the pointer under your index fingers, and the Mylar-surfaced 60 × 115 mm touchpad keeps three physical buttons.
Security sits in the chip
The TPM 2.0 module is a separate component, TCG and FIPS 140-3 certified: it shares nothing with the processor. The BIOS repairs itself if it is tampered with. Fingerprints are matched inside the sensor, in the power button, and never leave it. The infrared camera signs you in by face as soon as Windows is installed, and its shutter closes with one finger.
The fingerprint reader is built into the power button, top right of the keyboard.

Frequently asked questions about this product
Which operating system is installed on this ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 (21Y60025FE)?
None. The machine runs FreeDOS: you need to install an operating system before using it day to day. A Windows 11 Home or Pro licence can be added to your order from the accessories on this page. Until Windows is installed, the processor's Copilot+ features and facial recognition remain dormant.
How does the Ultra 7 355 differ from the Ultra 5 versions of this ThinkPad?
It reaches higher clock speeds and more AI performance: 8 cores up to 4.7 GHz versus 4.5 GHz, and a 49 TOPS AI engine versus 47. Memory, storage, screen and chassis are identical from one version to the other: it is the processor that sets the two machines apart, not the specification.
How much memory can it take?
Up to 64 GB. The 16 GB supplied sits on a single DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM module and the second slot is free: you can add a module without removing anything, and switch to dual-channel mode. No memory is soldered to the motherboard; both modules remain replaceable.
Is there room for a second drive?
Yes. The 512 GB SSD occupies the M.2 2242 slot; an M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot is free, and each accepts a drive of up to 1 TB. The supplied SSD supports Opal 2.0 hardware encryption, useful for protecting the data on a laptop that travels.
Is the screen a touchscreen, and how good is it?
It is not a touchscreen. It is a 14-inch 1920 × 1200 IPS panel in 16:10 format, anti-glare, at 400 nits and 60 Hz: bright enough for a well-lit office. Its 45% NTSC coverage is fine for office work and browsing, but not for colour work.
How many external displays can you connect?
Up to three, in addition to the built-in screen. The HDMI 2.1 port displays up to 4K at 60 Hz, and the two Thunderbolt 4 ports carry DisplayPort 2.1, up to 8K at 60 Hz, to a USB-C monitor or a docking station. These ports also handle charging: a single cable is all you need when you get back to your desk.
How long does it take to charge?
The 48 Wh battery gets back up to 50% in 30 minutes with the 65 W USB-C charger supplied, with the machine switched off or in sleep mode. Both Thunderbolt 4 ports accept USB Power Delivery charging from 15 to 65 W, so a compatible USB-C charger will also do the job.
What is in the box?
The laptop, its 65 W USB-C charger and a Lenovo Casual Toploader bag designed for laptops up to 15.6 inches. No software is included: Windows and Microsoft Office are sold separately, as accessories on this page.
Can it keep up with daily travel?
It is built for it: aluminium top cover and bottom cover, MIL-STD-810H military tests passed, spill-resistant keyboard, 1.34 kg and 19.7 mm thick at most. A Kensington Nano slot lets you secure it to a shared desk.
