Studio headphones that go anywhere
The 45 mm large-aperture drivers, with neodymium magnets and copper-clad aluminium wire voice coils, cover 15 to 28,000 Hz with accurate bass. The closed-back design isolates from the room, and the on-ear format lightens the whole. With 38 ohms of impedance and 102 dB/mW of sensitivity, the headphones get a good level from any headphone output: audio interface, console, laptop or phone.
On the desk, connected to the laptop.
A cable for every situation
Three detachable cables, all ending in a gold-plated 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack, are included: a 1.2 to 3 m coiled one for the studio, a 3 m straight one and a shorter 1.2 m straight one for listening on the go. The 6.35 mm adapter screws onto the plug for devices with a large jack, and a pouch protects the headphones in transport.

A metal construction, parts that can be changed
The headphone structure is metal, carefully assembled to last. The memory foam ear pads and headband mould to the head for hours and detach to be replaced when they wear out. Audio-Technica also sells the straight and coiled cables and the 6.35 mm stereo adapter separately.

On-ear means the ear pads rest on the ear: the ATH-M60xa is more compact and lighter than over-ear headphones such as the ATH-M50x or the ATH-M70x, whose ear pads surround the ear.

Frequently asked questions about this product
On-ear: what does it change compared with the ATH-M50x?
The ATH-M60xa's ear pads rest on the ears instead of surrounding them, for more discreet and lighter headphones, about 220 g without cable. They use the same 45 mm large-aperture drivers as the ATH-M50x, with a 15 to 28,000 Hz response, and their closed-back design keeps good isolation.
Which cables are included?
The box contains three detachable cables: a coiled one that stretches from 1.2 to 3 m, handy in the studio, a 3 m straight one and a short 1.2 m one for travel. All end in a gold-plated 3.5 mm mini-jack; the 6.35 mm adapter screws onto it, and a pouch protects the headphones.
Do the headphones work well with a phone?
Yes. Audio-Technica designed them with low impedance to deliver a good level from any headphone output: 38 ohms and 102 dB/mW sensitivity. They therefore work as well with a phone or a laptop as with an audio interface or a studio console, with the supplied 6.35 mm adapter.
Can the ear pads be replaced?
Yes. The memory foam ear pads and headband detach to be replaced when they wear out. Audio-Technica sells the ear pads, straight and coiled cables and the 6.35 mm stereo adapter separately, which extends the life of the headphones. Their carefully assembled metal construction is built to last.
What uses is the ATH-M60xa designed for?
Audio-Technica intends it for the studio and broadcast, but also for travel, with a more discreet on-ear format. It keeps a 15 to 28,000 Hz response with accurate bass, and its 1.2 m straight cable, shorter than the other two, suits listening on the go with a phone or a laptop.
More than 100 hours of wireless battery life, and recharging that does without a cable: just set it on a base. Foldable for long journeys, with an M button to customise from the app.
•More than 100 h of wireless battery life
•Wireless recharging on a base, or via the included USB-C cable
Built to travel: the structure folds, copes with journeys and weighs only 186 g on the head. The M button gives one-press access to the equaliser or the voice assistant, and the jack cable takes over when you prefer a wire.
Airy and wide without giving up all isolation: the 50 mm drivers cover 10 Hz to 30 kHz, with bass that is present but controlled and readable mids. It plugs straight into a computer.
Swapping cables takes a second: 3 m straight in the studio, coiled in the field. The 40 mm drivers with neodymium magnets reach up to 24 kHz, and the ear cups swivel 90° for one-ear monitoring.
Sixteen hours of playback per charge, and a folding design that makes it fit in a bag. Made from 100% recycled GRS-certified plastic, for 167 g on the head.
It plugs into a computer as easily as a tablet or a smartphone, with nothing to install. Rotating noise-cancelling microphone to wear on the left or the right, volume and mute on the cable.
The JBL Headphones app tunes the equaliser to your taste, and Voice Aware lets you hear your own voice during a call. Connected to two devices at once, 220 g on the head, 76 hours of stated listening.
A single plug to connect, to a computer as well as a phone or a tablet, with nothing to install. The noise-reducing microphone can be worn on the left or the right and lifts away when not in use.
No dedicated amplifier needed: it plugs straight into a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop with no loss of volume. The 50 mm drivers cover 10 Hz to 25 kHz and the 3 m cable can be replaced if it breaks.
