How does the HP LaserJet Pro 4103dw connect?
In four ways: dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4 and 5 GHz, Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000BASE-T, Bluetooth Low Energy and Hi-Speed USB 2.0. Wi-Fi Direct lets you print from a mobile device without going through the company network, and both AirPrint and Mopria are supported.
Can the HP LaserJet Pro 4103dw fax as well?
No. This version handles printing, copying and scanning, with no fax module. Its send functions, on the other hand, cover email with LDAP address lookup, network folders, Microsoft SharePoint, Google Drive, Dropbox and USB flash drives — enough to cover most document exchanges.
Is a USB cable supplied with the 4103dw?
Yes, the box contains a USB cable, along with the printer, its preinstalled original toner, the power cord, the setup guide, the support flyer and the regulatory notice. Connecting it directly to a computer therefore requires no extra purchase; an Ethernet cable is still needed for network connection.
Which toner comes preinstalled, and how far can the yield go?
The preinstalled 151A black toner lasts about 3,050 pages according to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard. The 151X high-yield cartridge (W1510X) goes up to about 9,700 pages, more than three times as many for a single change. Both are original HP toners.
Can a compatible non-HP toner be used in the 4103dw?
It is designed to work with cartridges fitted with a new or reused HP chip, and a dynamic security feature blocks non-HP chips. Firmware updates maintain this blocking and can disable a cartridge that was working until then. Remanufactured cartridges with an HP chip remain usable.
Does the 4103dw's feeder scan both sides in one pass?
Yes. The 50-sheet feeder reads the front and back in a single pass: a stack printed on both sides goes through without being turned over by hand. It accepts originals of 60 to 120 g/m², from 102 × 152 mm up to 216 × 356 mm, i.e. beyond A4 for long documents.
Does the 4103dw's scanner scan in colour?
Yes, at 1,200 × 1,200 dpi optical, even though printing is monochrome only. Expect up to 20 pages per minute in colour for a single-sided original. Files are saved as PDF, JPG or TIFF, and are sent to email with LDAP address lookup, a network folder, SharePoint, Google Drive, Dropbox or a USB flash drive.
How many sheets can be loaded, and can a tray be added?
350 sheets as standard: a 100-sheet tray 1 and a 250-sheet tray 2 cassette. An optional third 550-sheet tray (D9P29A) raises the input to 900 sheets. The output remains capped at 150 sheets: this is the point to watch on a long print run.
Can it print on envelopes or heavy paper?
Yes, via tray 1, which accepts up to 10 envelopes (No. 10, Monarch, B5, C5, DL), labels, rough, punched or letterhead paper, and custom sizes from 76.2 × 127 to 215.9 × 355.6 mm. Tray 2 and the optional tray remain limited to 60-120 g/m² and to paper.
An 80,000-page duty cycle and a recommended volume of 4,000: what should you take away?
The two figures do not measure the same thing. The 80,000 pages per month duty cycle is a theoretical maximum of robustness; the 750 to 4,000 pages range is the monthly pace on which the machine's service life and consumable replacement intervals are based. It is this second value that should guide your choice.
Can you print or scan without going through a computer?
Yes. A front USB port accepts a memory stick: you print a document from the 6.86 cm colour touchscreen with no PC or driver, and you scan to that same stick. The control panel also offers ID card copy and direct sending to the cloud.
How much power does the 4103dw use, and is it noisy?
510 W when printing, 7.5 W when ready and 0.9 W in sleep mode. Instant-on fusing eliminates warm-up: the first page comes out in 6.3 seconds from ready, and in 8.8 seconds from sleep. The measured sound pressure is 54 dB(A), in a room at 10 to 32.5 °C.
Is PIN-secured printing enabled out of the box?
It is offered as an option: releasing jobs by PIN code is not enabled as standard. The machine does, however, arrive with preconfigured security settings, verification of the boot code signature at power-on and 802.1X network authentication.
Which systems does the 4103dw support, and what warranty covers the unit?
macOS from Catalina to Monterey, Chrome OS, Android, iOS, plus Windows 7 to 11 and, on the network side, Linux, Citrix and Novell. Note for the first start-up: no software comes with the machine; drivers and utilities are downloaded from HP. The unit is new and under a 1-year warranty, backed by the invoice — details in the datasheet.
