Does the U7 Pro Max really use the 6 GHz band?
Yes, it is tri-band: 5.8 Gbps on 6 GHz with 320 MHz channels, 8.6 Gbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. The 6 GHz band remains little used by neighbouring networks, which makes it the cleanest for demanding uses.
How are the U7 Pro Max's 8 spatial streams distributed?
4×4 MU-MIMO on the 5 GHz band, 2×2 on the 6 GHz band and 2×2 on 2.4 GHz, for both transmission and reception. This allocation is what allows it to claim more than 500 devices simultaneously over 160 m².
What power supply do you need for the U7 Pro Max?
A PoE+ port: its power consumption reaches 25 W, well beyond the 15.4 W of an 802.3af port, with an input voltage of 44 to 57 V DC. So you will need a PoE+ switch or a suitable injector, and check the switch's total budget.
Does the U7 Pro Max's network port keep up with its radios?
It is an RJ45 port negotiating 1 or 2.5 Gbps. Against a theoretical 8.6 Gbps on the 5 GHz band, it remains the limiting factor towards the wired network — worth knowing, even though no single client device reaches these data rates in practice.
Is the mounting bracket supplied with the U7 Pro Max?
Yes, the Pro mount is included, for ceiling or wall installation. It is made of stainless steel and galvanised steel, while the casing combines polycarbonate and aluminium: allow 206 mm in diameter by 46 mm and 680 g.
How does the U7 Pro Max choose its channel in a crowded environment?
Through real-time spectral analysis: the access point continuously monitors spectrum usage and identifies the least congested channels, instead of relying on a single scan at power-on. Advanced radio management and band steering complete the system.
Can you give each user a different Wi-Fi password?
Yes, thanks to PPSK — private pre-shared key: a single network accepts several passwords, each identifying a user or a device. Revoking one person's access then does not force anyone else to change their key.
How do you set up controlled guest access on the U7 Pro Max?
The captive portal can be customised with your branding and accepts authentication by access vouchers, password, payment or via an external server. The guest network is isolated, and devices can also be isolated from one another.
Does the U7 Pro Max integrate with enterprise RADIUS authentication?
Yes, with dynamic VLAN assignment via RADIUS and support for RadSec, which encrypts communication with the authentication server using TLS. Passpoint is also supported, for automatic connection of recognised devices.
How many Wi-Fi networks can this access point broadcast?
8 networks per radio, or up to 24 in total across the three bands. Each one can be given its own bandwidth cap and activation schedule, to switch off a guest network at night, for example.
Does the connection stay stable when moving between UniFi access points?
Yes: 802.11r fast roaming, 802.11v transition management and 802.11k radio resource measurement switch the device over to the best access point without re-authentication. Wireless mesh also lets you add an access point without a cable.
Which app do you need to configure the U7 Pro Max?
The UniFi Network application, version 8.2.93 or later. Update the console or the application before connecting the access point, otherwise it will not be recognised during adoption.
Can the U7 Pro Max cope with a non-air-conditioned technical room?
Its operating range is -30 to 50 °C, with 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity: a hot room, a storeroom or a warehouse poses no difficulty. For direct exposure to rain, an outdoor model is still the right choice.
Is the equipment new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document for 1 year. The access point is NDAA compliant and CE, FCC, IC and Anatel certified, a requirement in some public tenders.
