Do the JBL Sense Lite go into the ear canal?

No. JBL OpenSound technology works through air conduction and leaves the ear canal open: sound reaches your ear without blocking it. You stay aware of what is going on around you, in town or at the office.

Can the person at the next desk hear what I am listening to?

The precise fit of the Sense Lite is specifically designed to eliminate sound leakage: the design aims for minimal leakage so that your conversations stay private. This is the usual weak point of the open-ear design, and the one this model has been engineered around.

Do these earbuds have active noise cancelling?

No, and it would make no sense on an open-ear design. The advertised noise reduction works on transmission: it cleans up what the person you are talking to hears during a call, not what you hear from the street. It is a distinction worth knowing before you buy.

How long do the JBL Sense Lite last?

Up to 8 h from the earbuds alone and 24 h more from the case, i.e. 32 h in total. On calls, count on 5 h. And if the battery runs out at the wrong moment, 10 minutes of charging gives you 3 h of listening; a full charge takes 2 h.

Is the ear hook comfortable for a whole day?

It is made of ultra-soft liquid silicone combined with a shape-memory wire that bends to fit every ear shape. The evenly balanced weight is 9.5 g per earbud, i.e. 19 g for the pair. Nothing goes into the ear canal, which removes the feeling of pressure.

Can you use just one earbud?

Yes, thanks to Dual Connect: the two earbuds work together, or either one on its own. Handy for keeping one ear free at the office, or for extending listening time by charging the unused earbud in the case.

How do calls go outdoors on a windy day?

Two beamforming mics per earbud, four in total, pick up your voice while shutting out everything else. The hydrodynamic windproof design greatly reduces the distortion caused by air friction: this is the aspect engineered for making calls while walking outdoors.

Can you run in light rain with the Sense Lite?

Yes: they are rated IP54, meaning protection against dust and against water splashed from any direction. A little sweat during a workout or light rain is therefore not a problem. They are not waterproof against immersion.

Can an open-ear design deliver real bass?

The Sense Lite rely on 18 × 11 mm drivers, large for an earbud, and on an adaptive bass boost algorithm that strengthens the low end according to the volume. This is the answer to the main compromise of the open-ear design.

Can you adjust the sound and controls to your liking?

Yes, in the JBL Headphones app: a 10-band equaliser for the sound signature, and the option to reassign the touch controls on each earbud, music and calls included. The app is not needed for listening, only for customising.

Can they be connected to two devices at the same time?

Yes, multipoint connection accepts two Bluetooth devices simultaneously and switches from one to the other without re-pairing. The connection uses Bluetooth 5.4, and Google Fast Pair pairs your Android device as soon as you open the case.

What is in the box of the JBL Sense Lite?

The JBL Sense Lite earbuds and their charging case. The ear-hook design does without interchangeable ear tips: the fit comes from the shape-memory wire, which you bend once and for all to the shape of your ear.
