Frequently asked questions about this product

Do you need an audio interface or an XLR cable with this headset?
No, the interface is built into the headset: a single USB-C connection links everything to the computer, and the processing for the microphone, headphones, mute and mix is handled on board. No external box and no XLR cable to route.
What do the 24-bit / 96 kHz figures quoted for the StreamSet mean?
It is the signal conversion format built into the headset: 24-bit resolution and 96 kHz sampling, the standard working format in recording. The converter sits in the ear cup, not in a box on the desk.
How can you mute the microphone without making a noise on air?
By touching the right ear cup: mute is touch-activated and silent, with no switch click and no menu to open. You keep your hands on the keyboard during a live stream or a meeting.
What is zero-latency monitoring on this headset?
It is the ability to hear yourself live in the headset, without the delay introduced when monitoring is routed back through the computer. Audio-Technica quotes it at 0 ms: your voice comes back to your ear the moment you speak.
Can you balance your voice against the computer's sound?
Yes. Three controls are accessible on the headset: mic gain, mic/PC mix and listening level. It is this mix that lets you hear yourself properly amid the sound of a game or a meeting.
What difference does a cardioid microphone make compared with an ordinary one?
It picks up what is in front of it and rejects what comes from the sides and rear: your voice comes through, the room much less so. Here it is a dynamic microphone mounted on a flexible gooseneck, positioned at mouth level.
Are the headphones really those of the studio M50x?
Yes: the closed-back design of the ATH-M50x, 45 mm neodymium-magnet drivers and a stated response of 15 Hz to 28 kHz. The ear cushions surround the ear, providing isolation for live monitoring.
Does the StreamSet work on an iPad or a Mac?
Yes: stated compatibility covers Windows 10 and later, macOS, iPadOS and iOS, via the USB-C connection. A USB-C to USB-A cable is included for computers without a USB-C port.
What is in the box of the ATH-M50x StreamSet USB?
The headset, a USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-A cable and a carrying pouch. The two cables cover every workstation, from the recent laptop to the older tower.
Is this Audio-Technica headset new and under warranty?
Yes, new in its original Audio-Technica packaging. Your invoice serves as the warranty document and covers 1 year. The headset is recognised as soon as it is plugged in, with no driver to install.
