The ATH-M70x is the flagship of Audio-Technica's M-Series. Its 45 mm drivers are tuned to reproduce extreme lows and highs accurately while keeping the balance, which is what you expect from headphones for mixing, mastering or recording.

The extremes, without losing balance

The 45 mm large-aperture drivers, with neodymium magnets and copper-clad aluminium wire voice coils, reach from 5 to 40,000 Hz. Audio-Technica tuned them for extremely accurate reproduction across the whole band, while keeping an ideal balance: that is what makes them a tool for mixing, mastering, recording, post-production and sound capture. The headphones accept up to 2,000 mW at 1 kHz, for an impedance of 35 ohms.

One ear on the headphones, the other in the room

The earcups swivel 90°: you keep one ear free to monitor sound live, in a DJ booth or when recording. The ear pads surround the ears and isolate from ambient noise, even in a loud place. The professional-grade ear pads and headband detach to be replaced, and metal components ensure the longevity of the headphones.

Three cables and a case for transport

The box contains three detachable cables with a gold-plated 3.5 mm mini-jack: an extendable 1.2 to 3 m coiled one, a 3 m straight one and a 1.2 m straight one. The 6.35 mm adapter screws onto the plug. The headband folds to store the headphones in their semi-hard case, and a soft pouch holds the cables.

The 3.5 mm mini-jack plugs straight into a computer or a phone; the screwed-on 6.35 mm adapter is for consoles, interfaces and amplifiers. If lost, it exists as a genuine part.

What uses is the ATH-M70x intended for?
Audio-Technica intends it for mixing and mastering, studio recording, live sound, DJing and post-production. Its 45 mm drivers are tuned to reproduce the extreme lows and highs accurately, from 5 to 40,000 Hz, while keeping an ideal balance, which is what you expect from monitor headphones.
Which cables and accessories are included?
The headphones come with three detachable cables ending in a gold-plated 3.5 mm mini-jack: an extendable 1.2 to 3 m coiled one and two straight ones, 3 m and 1.2 m. The 6.35 mm adapter screws onto the plug; a semi-hard case holds the folded headphones and a soft pouch stores the cables.
Can I listen with one ear?
Yes. The earcups swivel 90°, which lets you keep one ear free for live monitoring, in a DJ booth or when recording. The headband folds to store the headphones in their case. The closed-back design and the ear pads around the ears isolate from ambient noise in loud places.
What is the difference with the ATH-M50x?
Both use 45 mm drivers, but the ATH-M70x is tuned for a wider response, from 5 to 40,000 Hz against 15 to 28,000 Hz, and accepts up to 2,000 mW of input power. It is built with metal components to last and comes with a semi-hard case. Its impedance is 35 ohms.
Are the ear pads replaceable?
Yes. The professional-grade ear pads and headband detach to be easily replaced when they wear out. The cables can also be changed since they are detachable. The 6.35 mm screw-on adapter is available as a genuine Audio-Technica spare part under part number 386500980.
