Does the TL-SG1024 detect a cabling loop?
Yes, on all 24 ports: loop prevention is built in, even though the switch is unmanaged. It is a valuable safeguard in a room where cables are often re-plugged, because a loop saturates an unmanaged network within seconds.
Can ports be isolated from each other on this switch?
Yes, an isolation mode covers ports 1 to 22: the devices connected to them can no longer see each other and communicate only with the remaining ports, typically the uplink. It is the simplest way to separate guest workstations without creating VLANs.
Can this 24-port switch really be mounted in a 19-inch rack?
Yes: the steel case measures 440 × 180 × 44 mm, the width of a standard rack, 1U high and only 18 cm deep. It runs without a fan, which makes it silent in a shared room or a classroom.
How much does the TL-SG1024 consume with all 24 ports in use?
13.1 W maximum at 220 V/50 Hz, with a heat dissipation of 46.44 BTU/h, the equivalent of a small light bulb. Green technology adjusts power according to the state of each link and the length of the connected cable, which cuts the bill further across a lightly used set of devices.
Is quality of service available on every unit?
802.1p/DSCP traffic prioritisation is only present from hardware revision V11 of the TL-SG1024 onwards. Check the label under the case if you are relying on it: earlier revisions switch traffic without prioritising voice or video.
What internal performance does this 24-port model offer?
48 Gbps switching capacity and 35.7 Mpps, in a non-blocking architecture, with an 8,000-entry MAC address table. Jumbo frames go up to 10 KB, and 802.3x flow control, supplemented by back pressure in half duplex, limits losses when the network is congested.
What cable is needed to run the ports at Gigabit speed?
Category 5, 5e or higher cable, over 100 m maximum, for 100BASE-TX as well as 1000BASE-T; Categories 3 to 5 are enough for 10 Mbps. The pinout does not matter: auto MDI/MDIX corrects it on its own, including between two switches.
Does anything need configuring before connecting the workstations?
No, no configuration is required. Auto-negotiation detects the speed of each device (10, 100 or 1,000 Mbps) and adjusts it on its own. The LEDs on the front show the status of each link in real time, which is enough for an initial diagnosis.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The steel case and the fanless design limit both overheating and mechanical failures on equipment designed to stay on permanently in a patch rack.
